BMW M3 G80 / M4 G82 exhaust system: freeing the S58 as it should have been

The BMW M3 G80, M3 Touring G81, M4 G82 and M4 Convertible G83 share the S58 engine, but the right exhaust depends above all on the result you are after and the options you pick. ROG lets you choose the design, the material and whether or not to add a manifold, each separately. Here is how to compare those choices and prepare your configuration.

Start with the design

Both the Standard and the Equal Length configurations are available. Standard keeps a more direct expression of the twin-turbo six. Equal Length balances the length of the two paths before they meet, which changes the sonic signature. The choice is therefore first and foremost about the acoustic character you are after. To listen and compare usefully, take account of the model, the material, the manifold and the valve position: two videos filmed in different conditions are not an exact comparison.

Choose the material and the manifold separately

You can choose stainless steel or titanium. Treat the material as a separate decision from the geometry: it affects the finish, the weight of the part and the sound, without on its own determining the configuration that suits you.

The configurator shows four choices for the front section: no manifold, decat manifold, 100-cell sports manifold and 200-cell sports manifold. Whether each suits your use, your car and the rules that apply to you must be checked before you order. Having a sports catalytic converter is no guarantee of passing vehicle inspection.
