Which valved exhaust for a BMW 335i N55 E90, E91, E92 or E93?
The Rog system for the BMW 335i N55 (2010-2013) is a valved cat-back exhaust for the E90 saloon, E91 Touring, E92 coupé and E93 convertible, built to your VIN in 304 stainless steel or titanium for the 306 hp turbo six-cylinder. Valves open, the 335i regains a smooth, sustained song that turns metallic high in the revs; closed, it keeps a low profile.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our BMW 335i N55 E90 guide.
From 2010 to 2013, the 335i E90 saloon, E91 Touring, E92 coupé or E93 convertible swaps the N54’s two turbos for a single twin-scroll unit: this is the N55, a 3.0-litre inline-six with direct injection and Valvetronic. The figures stay the same, 306 hp and 400 Nm, but the engine gains flexibility and the torque arrives even earlier. The preceding 335i N54 and the replacement 335i F30 have their own pages.
On this engine, the turbine already absorbs a good part of the noise and the factory exhaust does the rest, so the inline-six is sensed more than heard. Freed, its note is smooth and continuous, then metallic and hoarse at high revs. With the valves of the Rog cat-back open, the 335i regains that sustained song, rounder at start-up and more furious under acceleration; as an E93, roof folded, you enjoy it unfiltered. Closed again, they restore its everyday politeness.
Fitting needs no welding: clamps, gaskets, about two hours on a lift, for a system made to your car’s VIN. Cars with factory valves keep their control; the others get the Rog remote, two buttons and a unit hidden in the boot.
Behind the single turbo, this page’s “Manifold” option sells the downpipe and its catalytic converter, a part that only turns into power with a suitable map; on its own, it works on voice and weight. A 335i that also serves as a daily driver will go for the 200-cell downpipe, which keeps its catalytic converter active; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. This valved cat-back can be ordered in 304 stainless steel for cars that face winter, or in titanium, around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW 335i N55 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T exhaust.
Is the N55-engined 335i E91 Touring covered by this system?
Yes. The E91 Touring N55, built from 2010 to 2012, takes the same Rog system as the E90 saloon, the E92 coupé and the E93 convertible, with the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the engine and model year before manufacturing.
How much horsepower does a 335i N55 gain with a downpipe and a new map?
The Stage 2 figures published on the page give 368 hp and 557 Nm, with the clearest gain in torque; the cat-back alone, for its part, fits without touching the electronics and leaves the original 306 hp.
Before presenting a 335i N55 for inspection, which settings should I check?
Above all, remember to close the valves so you arrive at a level close to standard; after that, emissions control remains effective behind the cat-back alone or a 200-cell downpipe, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Should I choose the same system for a 2009 335i?
It all depends on the engine: up to 2010, the 335i E9x has the twin-turbo N54 and its own page, after that the N55, which falls under this one; if in any doubt, your VIN lets us decide before manufacturing.
In the E93 convertible, is the sound really different?
With the roof folded, nothing comes between the inline-six and you: with the valves open, the 335i E93 becomes a real sonorous cruising car, then regains its calm as soon as you close them again.
BMW 335i N55 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 335i N55 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
