Which valved exhaust for a BMW M3 E90, E92 or E93 V8?
The Rog system for the BMW M3 V8 is a valved cat-back exhaust for the E90 saloon, E92 coupé and E93 convertible, built to your VIN in 304 stainless steel or titanium for the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre S65 with 420 hp. The factory system weighs 26.8 kg and holds back the V8's crescendo in the midrange; valves open, it screams all the way to 8,400 rpm.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our BMW M3 E92 V8 guide.
The only M3 powered by a V8, the E9x generation exists as the E90 saloon, E92 coupé and E93 convertible. Its 4.0-litre S65, derived from the M5 E60’s V10, breathes without a turbo through individual throttle bodies and revs up to 8,400 rpm to deliver 420 hp and 400 Nm. This page covers the 2008 to 2013 model years; the six-cylinder M3 E46 and the twin-turbo F80 have their own pages.
On a naturally aspirated engine of this calibre, the exhaust decides everything. From the factory, a system weighing 26.8 kg according to the page holds back part of the crescendo, especially in the mid-range, where the V8 builds its fury. With the valves open, the valved Rog cat-back lets through a hoarse rumble in the intermediate revs, then a mechanical howl beyond 7,000 rpm; with the valves closed again, the M3 remains usable for the commute without tiring either the driver or the neighbours.
No modification is made to the body of this now sought-after M3: the system follows your VIN, attaches with clamps and gaskets in half a day in the workshop, and its valves answer either to the factory control or to the Rog remote, whose box slips into the boot.
Here the “Manifold” option sells the front section of the system, with its catalytic converter and the X-pipe linking the V8’s two banks. On a naturally aspirated engine, its geometry matters, but the gain remains modest, even with an ECU remap. The V8 keeps its emissions control with the 200-cell catalysed section; with the 100-cell, the M3 is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country; the decat version, for its part, is reserved for track use. 304 stainless steel extends the V8’s roundness, while titanium makes it around 40% lighter and comes in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW M3 E90 / E92 / E93 4.0L exhaust.
Saloon, coupé or convertible: which V8 M3 takes this system?
All three body styles, E90, E92 and E93, appear on the page, from 2008 to 2013; for a 2007 car, send us the VIN and we check compatibility before building.
Is remapping a naturally aspirated S65 worth it?
The gains remain limited on a non-turbo V8: the page lists 468 hp and 452 Nm in Stage 2, against 420 hp and 400 Nm as standard, mainly felt at the top end; the cat-back, for its part, works without any ECU adjustment.
BMW M3 E90 / E92 / E93 4.0L with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
Close the valves, and the S65 returns to a volume close to stock; the original or 200-cell catalysed front section keeps the gases treated, the 100-cell variant is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
What does the front section with X-pipe change on the V8?
It links the two cylinder banks ahead of the cat-back and replaces the original catalytic converter; on a naturally aspirated engine, the effect is mainly felt in the voice, the power gain remaining modest and tied to an ECU remap.
Why is the M3 E92 said to howl beyond 7,000 rpm?
Because the S65, cousin of the M5 E60’s V10, revs all the way to 8,400 rpm; with the valves open, our system lets you hear that high-pitched register the factory system subdues.
BMW M3 E90 / E92 / E93 4.0L: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW M3 E90 / E92 / E93 4.0L: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
