The Toyota GR86 ZN8 2.4 exhaust in detail.
The second generation of the line, the GR86 ZN8 arrived in 2022 with a bigger engine and the same recipe: rear-wheel drive, a boxer sitting very low, a centre of gravity close to the ground, a balance praised by the whole motoring press. Its naturally aspirated 2.4-litre FA24 produces 234 hp and 250 Nm in European form, enough to have fun without ever overwhelming the rest, so the sound counts double, while the factory system remains very discreet.
No turbo here: all the character plays out in the revs. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back lets the boxer sing at full voice, louder and louder as the needle climbs towards the red line, with sharp crackles when you lift off; once they are closed, the GR86 becomes as discreet as it was when it left the factory. This page covers the GR86 ZN8 built since 2022; the GT86 ZN6 that preceded it has its own, and your VIN is checked before manufacturing.
Allow about two hours for fitting, with clamps and gaskets, without welding. The valves follow the factory control when the car has one; otherwise, the two-button Rog remote operates them.
On the GR86, the Rog system works without an ECU remap: the benefit lies mainly in sound and breathing, which is exactly the point on a car built for sensations. Two black round tips finish the system; for the rest, you choose 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter for the same design, which matters on a GR86 whose whole philosophy rests on lightness.

Questions about the Toyota GR86 ZN8 2.4 exhaust.
GR86 ZN8 or Subaru BRZ ZD8: does the Rog system change from one twin to the other?
No. Toyota and Subaru developed this second generation together: the GR86 comes out of the same factory as the BRZ ZD8, with the same 2.4-litre FA24 boxer and a Subaru VIN starting with JF1. Same Rog system, same price, only the page changes.
Own an older GT86 ZN6: does this GR86 ZN8 system apply to you?
No, the first generation, the GT86 ZN6, also called the Toyota 86 or Scion FR-S, has its own page and its own system. This one is reserved for the GR86 ZN8 built since 2022, with a VIN check before manufacturing.
What power gain can you expect on a GR86 ZN8 fitted with this system?
Nothing notable on paper: the cat-back acts on the voice and the breathing, and takes off a little weight. On a 234 hp naturally aspirated boxer, that is by design: the GR86 is driven for sensations, and the Rog system adds a lot of them.
On the day of the vehicle inspection, what should you do with a modified GR86 ZN8?
Simply close the valves before the appointment: the GR86 then regains the voice and the discretion of the stock car, and that is the position in which it goes through the vehicle inspection.
Can a modified GR86 ZN8 stay discreet in town as well as on the motorway?
Yes: with the valves closed, the GR86 regains its factory discretion, and our systems are designed to avoid drone on the motorway. You open them when the road starts to wind, via the factory control or the Rog remote.
Toyota GR86 ZN8 2.4: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
