Configuration
Volkswagen Golf 8 R 2.0 TSI Valved Exhaust (2020-2022)
Valves
Operated by remote control, paired in our workshop.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.

The Volkswagen Golf 8 R exhaust in detail.
With 320 hp and 420 Nm, the EA888 2.0 TSI in the Golf 8 R is the most powerful version of this turbocharged four-cylinder in the Golf range. This page covers the 2020 to 2022 model years; the supplier’s front section is for the R, not the GTI. The Golf 8 GTI and the previous generation, Golf 7 and 7.5 R, have their own pages.
From the factory, the R stays surprisingly hushed: the original exhaust is designed so that you barely hear the engine. With the valves open, our valved cat-back gives the TSI a full tone, real presence under load and crisp crackles on the overrun; with the valves closed, the Golf returns to calm motorway cruising and the versatility expected of it.
Four black round exits finish a system fixed with clamps and gaskets, without welding, in about two hours. The drive modes continue to control the factory valves; if your R has none, the Rog remote and its small box in the boot operate them.
Behind the page’s “Manifold” label is the R’s downpipe, which carries the catalytic converter. For a compact used every day, the 200-cell version is the most sensible since it keeps emissions control; the 100-cell version is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. The 320 hp stays as it is as long as the ECU is not touched. Titanium weighs around 40% less than 304 stainless steel and comes in brushed, chrome, gold or purple.

Questions about the Volkswagen Golf 8 R 2.0 TSI exhaust.
And for a 2023 model year Golf 8 R?
The cat-back is listed up to 2024, but the downpipe stops at 2022 at our supplier, hence the range on the page. Send us your R’s VIN and we check each part before manufacturing.
What does an ECU remap change on the 320 hp Golf 8 R?
Nothing for the cat-back, which does without. Combined with the downpipe and carried out at an approved tuner, it leads to the 440 hp and 550 Nm listed on the page.
Can the valved Golf 8 R be presented at the vehicle inspection?
Yes, with the valves closed, with a sound level close to how it was on delivery. With the cat-back alone or a 200-cell downpipe, the R keeps standard emissions control. A 100-cell downpipe is judged depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules; in decat form, the R leaves the road for the track.
Can the Golf 8 R downpipe be fitted to a GTI of the same generation?
No, our supplier reserves it for the R; the Golf 8 GTI has its own page, with a dedicated downpipe.
