The short answer. For an Audi RS3 8Y, the most complete valved exhaust is a cat-back built for your car: the Rog system is made to order from your VIN, Sportback or saloon, in 304 stainless steel or titanium, with a straight pipe or resonator at the same price, from €2,890 with the remote included. Valves closed, the RS3 goes unnoticed; valves open, the five-cylinder finds its syncopated growl again.

The RS3 8Y keeps the 2.5 TFSI, a turbocharged five-cylinder with 400 hp and 500 Nm whose 1-2-4-5-3 firing order gives it all its character. With its particulate filter, the factory system lets little of it through: on our 0 to 10 scale, valves open, it sits at 3. Here are the four options to free the five-cylinder, and what each one brings.

On the RS3, the cat-back is what really frees the five-cylinder: a silencer on its own leaves the rest of the factory system filtering the sound and imposes the voice chosen by its manufacturer. The Rog system replaces everything after the downpipe and lets you choose the material and the character, then the volume on every drive with the valves.

How to choose.

  • The sound. On the Rog system, the straight pipe gives the raw sound of the five-cylinder and the resonator a rounder, slightly softer voice, at the same price (see straight pipe or resonator). Valves open, the syncopated growl comes back in full, with crackles on the overrun.
  • The material. Titanium weighs about 40% less than stainless steel for the same design and has a more metallic tone. 304 stainless steel gives a fuller note.
  • The body style. The Sportback and the saloon do not use the same system. At Rog, the body style is read from your VIN and confirmed before the system is made, with no part number to pick.
  • Road use and inspections. Valves closed, a Rog system stays close to the stock sound, and the cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe keep a catalytic converter.

Frequently asked questions.

What is the best valved exhaust for an Audi RS3 8Y?
The one that gives you the sound you want. The Rog system is a valved cat-back made from your VIN: you choose the material and the character of the five-cylinder, straight pipe or resonator at the same price, and you keep a discreet RS3 with the valves closed, remote included.

Sportback or saloon: is the system the same?
No, each body style has its own system. At Rog, it is identified from your VIN and confirmed before it is made, with no part number to pick.

Does the RS3 8Y need an ECU remap?
Not for the cat-back, which touches neither the engine nor the ECU. Yes if you want the downpipe to turn into power: at Stage 2, published figures for the RS3 8Y are 460 hp and 570 Nm. With a sports catalytic converter, the engine warning light can come on; a suitable map sorts it.

Can I keep the Audi valve control?
Yes, if your RS3 has factory valves: the system uses their control and the drive modes stay in charge. Would you rather decide yourself? The Rog remote, included, opens and closes the valves whatever the mode.

Will a valved RS3 pass its inspection?
Valves closed, the RS3 stays close to its stock sound, and the cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe keep a catalytic converter. The Rog system has no ECE certificate: the rules and the decision belong to your country's inspection (see the links above), and the catless version is for track use only.
