The BMW X3 M40i G01 exhaust in detail.
Probably the best balance of enjoyment and versatility in the X3 range: the M40i G01 puts the B58, a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, into an everyday SUV, with 360 hp then 374 hp depending on the version and 500 Nm. All years from 2017 to 2024 are covered by our page, and our customers often sum up what they want like this: the family during the week, the inline-six at the weekend. The S58-powered X3 M F97 is covered by another page.
In the X3 M40i, the filter and the large mufflers required by emissions standards barely let you guess that an inline-six is running under the hood: total discretion, too total for this engine. With the valves open, our cat-back, free of any superfluous resonator, releases a round bass at idle, a full and even climb and crisp crackles, without tiring drone; with the valves closed, the SUV goes back to being a family car.
Nothing is cut or welded: the system bent to your VIN connects with clamps and gaskets in about two hours, and the drive modes continue to control the factory valves, with the Rog remote taking over on an X3 that has none.
The “Manifold” option sells the B58’s downpipe, where the catalytic converter sits; it only turns into horsepower with an ECU remap, and on its own brings a little sound and lightness. The 200-cell sports catalytic converter keeps this SUV’s emissions control in working order for weekday journeys; its 100-cell variant is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. Finally, the cat-back can be ordered in the material of your choice: 304 stainless steel for its roundness, titanium for its roughly 40% lower mass.

Questions about the BMW X3 M40i G01 3.0T exhaust.
Can the final-year 2024 X3 M40i be fitted?
Yes, our page runs up to 2024; send the VIN and we check compatibility before any manufacturing.
360 or 374 hp: which Stage 2 for the X3 M40i?
The page publishes 440 hp and 620 Nm for both versions, with downpipe and a map by an approved tuner; the B58 is among the engines that respond best, and the cat-back on its own needs no ECU remap at all.
BMW X3 M40i G01 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
How do you reconcile family life and an inline-six on an X3 M40i?
That is exactly what the valves are for: closed for the school run and trips with passengers, open at the weekend with just you behind the wheel; switching takes a single touch.
Is titanium worth it on an SUV like the X3 M40i?
It takes around 40% of the mass out of the system for the same design and brightens the B58’s note; 304 stainless steel remains the most popular choice, for its roundness and robustness.
BMW X3 M40i G01 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear muffler and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the highway.
BMW X3 M40i G01 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
