The BMW 335i N54 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 exhaust in detail.
E90 sedan, E91 Touring, E92 coupé or E93 convertible: the 335i N54 defined its era. Its 3.0-liter direct-injection inline-six uses two small turbos, each fed by three cylinders, for 306 hp and 400 Nm from low revs. This page covers the 2007 to 2010 model years; the 335i N55, which took over with a single turbo, has its own page.
The two turbines already act as a first muffler, and the factory exhaust, weighing 34.2 kg according to the page, adds volumes designed for comfort. The result: an inline-six renowned for its sound remains barely audible. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back gives it back a hushed voice at idle that becomes increasingly metallic as the needle climbs; with the valves closed, the 335i becomes an everyday car again.
No welding: the system, built to your VIN, is fitted with clamps and gaskets in about two hours on a lift. A 335i equipped with factory valves keeps their control; the others go through the Rog remote and its box housed in the trunk.
The “Manifold” option actually sells the N54’s downpipes, which carry the catalytic converters at the turbo outlets, and it is the ECU remap, an area where this engine excels, that turns them into power; on their own, they bring sound and a little lightness. The 200-cell downpipes keep the emissions control of a sedan or coupé used every day, the 100-cell ones are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. Cat-back in full-sounding 304 stainless steel, or in titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW 335i N54 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T exhaust.
Can the 335i E91 Touring take this system?
Yes. The E91 Touring takes the same Rog system as the E90 sedan, the E92 coupé and the E93 convertible: same N54, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a late-2006 Touring, before the years covered by this page, your VIN lets us confirm the model year before manufacturing.
Is the 335i’s N54 a good candidate for Stage 2?
Yes, it owes a good part of its reputation to its tuning headroom: with downpipes and an ECU remap at an approved tuner, the published Stage 2 figures for the 335i are 380 hp and 540 Nm, with nothing required for the cat-back alone.
Before vehicle inspection, what should be checked on a modified 335i N54?
With the valves closed, the 335i returns to a murmur close to stock; with the factory front section or the 200-cell downpipes, the catalytic converters keep working, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
N54 or N55: how do I identify my 335i?
Up to 2010, the 335i E9x receives the twin-turbo N54; then comes the single-turbo N55, which has its own page, and your VIN removes any doubt before manufacturing.
How much does the 335i’s factory exhaust weigh, and does titanium make a difference?
Our data lists it at 34.2 kg; our titanium cat-back weighs around 40% less than the same design in stainless steel, a real weight saving on an already heavy sedan.
BMW 335i N54 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear muffler and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the highway.
BMW 335i N54 E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
