Which valved exhaust for the Golf 7 R and Golf 7.5 R (Mk7 / Mk7.5)?
The Rog system for the Volkswagen Golf 7 R and 7.5 R is a valved cat-back exhaust in 304 stainless steel or titanium, built to your VIN for the 300 to 310 hp EA888 2.0 TSI, in both three- and five-door form. Valves closed, the R keeps the discretion of an everyday hatchback; valves open, the turbo four-cylinder gains a full voice and crackles on the overrun, and the 200-cell downpipe is available as an option.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our Golf 7 R / 7.5 R guide.
This system covers both phases of the seventh-generation Golf R: the Golf 7 R and then the facelifted 7.5 R, from 2014 to 2019. Both use the EA888, a 2.0 TSI turbocharged four-cylinder with 300 to 310 hp and 380 to 400 Nm depending on the version. It is probably the most tuned engine in the world, backed by a huge GTI and R community and endless documentation.
From the factory, its sound is tuned for discretion: the character is in the engine, not in the exhaust. With the valves open, our valved cat-back gives a full, sporty tone, clear crackles on the overrun and real presence under load. With the valves closed, the Golf keeps the versatility of an everyday car: at 130 km/h the gases flow through the muffler and cruising stays calm, with no resonance.
Fitting with no welding or cutting: four round tips, band clamps and gaskets, about two hours in the workshop. If your R has kept its factory valves, the system connects to their control and the drive modes stay in charge; otherwise the Rog remote, linked to a discreet box in the trunk, opens and closes them on demand.
The “Manifold” option on this page actually replaces the downpipe, which runs from the turbo and houses the catalytic converter: on a turbocharged four-cylinder, it is the part that restricts the most. With a 200-cell converter it keeps emissions control; with 100 cells or decat, it does not. Without an ECU remap, it brings sound and a little weight saving; with one, it becomes the real power lever of the EA888. The system comes in 304 stainless steel or in titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Volkswagen Golf 7 / 7.5 R 2.0 TSI exhaust.
Does the system fit a Golf 7 R as well as a 7.5 R?
Yes, both phases from 2014 to 2019 share the same system. Your VIN, requested with the order, lets us confirm your R’s compatibility before manufacturing. The Golf 8 R and the Golf 7.5 GTI each have their own page.
Does the Golf R need an ECU remap?
No, the cat-back fits and works with the original map. The EA888, however, is the Stage 2 engine par excellence: downpipe plus an ECU remap at an approved tuner, and the published figures for the 310 hp version reach 378 hp and 483 Nm.
Is a Golf R with this system still fit to present for vehicle inspection?
Present it with the valves closed, as close as possible to its factory sound. As long as the cat-back is fitted alone or the downpipe has a 200-cell converter, emissions control remains intact. With the 100-cell, acceptance depends on the car and the rules in your country; the decat version remains a track solution.
Which material should I choose for a Golf R?
For a Golf driven all year round, 304 stainless steel copes with winter road salt and gives a round voice. Titanium removes around 40% of the system’s weight for the same design, sounds clearer at the top of the rev range and does not rust either.
How long between ordering and fitting?
Each system is made for your car: 20 working days from confirmation to delivery, with free delivery. After that, around two hours on a lift at the garage of your choice.
Golf R three-door or five-door: is the system the same?
Yes. The three-door and the five-door take the same Rog system: same chassis, same 2.0 TSI, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Volkswagen Golf 7 / 7.5 R 2.0 TSI: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear muffler and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the highway.
Volkswagen Golf 7 / 7.5 R 2.0 TSI: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
