Mercedes-AMG C63 W204 Valved Exhaust (2011-2015)

The Mercedes-AMG C63 W204 exhaust in detail.

A 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 in a compact saloon: the C63 W204 recipe will not come back. The M156, the first engine developed entirely by AMG, revs beyond 7,000 rpm and delivers 457 hp, or 487 hp in Performance form, with 600 Nm. This page covers the W204 saloon from 2011 to 2015; the twin-turbo V8 C63 W205 and the ML63 W164, which also receives a 6.2, have their own page.

With no turbo to filter anything, the exhaust is the 6.2’s instrument. Its song builds with the revs: deep and menacing below 4,000 rpm, increasingly furious up to the red line, with that American V8 tone you recognise from afar. The factory exhaust holds some of it back, precisely at the top. With the valves open, our valved cat-back unleashes that crescendo; with the valves closed, the saloon starts up without waking the street.

Made to your VIN, the system fits with clamps and gaskets, with no welding or cutting, in about two hours. Valve control through the factory system if your C63 has it, otherwise through the Rog remote.

Here, the “Manifold” option concerns the catalysed front section, at the outlet of the V8’s manifolds. On a naturally aspirated engine, its design matters: lengths and geometry affect cylinder filling at high revs, and the gain, real but modest, lies between 3 and 8% with an ECU remap. With a 200-cell converter, it leaves emissions control in place. With the 100-cell, acceptance depends on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version, reserved for track use, has no place on a road-going saloon. For the cat-back, 304 stainless steel with a round tone, or titanium around 40% lighter, whose metal rings clearer as the V8 approaches the red line.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG C63 W204 berline 6.2 V8 M156 exhaust.

Can the C63 C204 coupé or the S204 estate take this system?

The supplier data refers to the W204 saloon from 2011 to 2015; the coupé and estate are not documented. Send us your C63’s VIN before ordering: we check, and we only manufacture once compatibility is confirmed.

Does an ECU remap make sense on the C63 W204’s M156?

On a naturally aspirated engine, gains remain measured: the page publishes 536 hp and 672 Nm at Stage 2, front section included. Fitted alone, the cat-back requires no change of map. You tune an M156 for response and top-end reach more than for lap times.

Is the front section worth it on a C63 W204?

More than on a turbo engine, because the geometry at the engine outlet affects cylinder filling at high revs. Expect 3 to 8% with an ECU remap. Without one, it is mainly the sound that changes.

How should a modified C63 W204 be presented at vehicle inspection?

With the valves closed, the V8 keeps a voice close to stock, and that is how it should be presented. With the cat-back alone or the 200-cell front section, the M156’s gases stay catalysed. The 100-cell depends on the car and the country; the decat version is reserved for track use.

Does the C63 W204’s cold start wake up the neighbourhood?

Not if you keep the valves closed: the 6.2 then wakes with a sound close to standard. You open them once you are out of the street, with a button on the Rog remote or via the factory control.
