Sports exhaust (sportsummuti) in Estonia: what the tehnoülevaatus checks.
Updated 30 October 2026.
A Rog valved exhaust gives you the sound you choose, and a car that stays discreet when it matters. Valves open, the sound you chose; valves closed, a sound very close to stock, day to day and at the tehnoülevaatus, Estonia's roadworthiness test. A cat-back keeps your factory catalytic converter, so emissions control stays exactly as it was: in Estonia, it is the configuration we recommend. Each system is built from your VIN, from a 3D scan of the chassis and of the original system, and bolts onto the original mounting points with no welding. Free technical documentation for your paperwork, a 3-year warranty and free delivery.
What you get with Rog.
- The sound you choose: you configure your system (design, material, catalytic converter, valve control), and you open the valves whenever you like, on a clear road or on track.
- A discreet car when it matters: valves closed, the sound stays very close to stock, in your street and at the tehnoülevaatus.
- A system made for your car: built from your VIN, from a 3D scan of the chassis and of the original system, checked before production; it bolts onto the original mounting points with no welding, at the garage of your choice.
- Emissions control kept: a cat-back keeps your factory catalytic converter and sensors, the configuration we recommend in Estonia; the catless version is for track use only.
- Valves controlled by your car's original drive modes or by the Rog remote.
- The technical documentation for your system, free, on request, for the tehnoülevaatus or for a rebuild application to Transpordiamet.
- 20 working days to build and deliver, free delivery, 3-year warranty.

At the tehnoülevaatus: how it works.
- Noise is assessed subjectively: a stationary noise test with a meter is only carried out when the inspector thinks the level may exceed the limit (Regulation No. 77, annex 4, item 8.1.1). Valves closed, your car goes in sounding very close to stock.
- Your limit is specific to your car: the stationary noise level permitted by its manufacturer. If your registreerimistunnistus shows it (field U.1), see our article on field U.1.
- Pipes and silencers (item 6.1.2): checked visually from the pit or the lift, for mounting and leaks. A Rog system bolts onto the original mounting points, with no welding.
- Emissions equipment (item 8.2.1.1): checked visually; on Euro 6 cars, the inspector also reads the fault codes through the on-board diagnostics. A cat-back leaves the factory equipment untouched.
- Your papers: the registreerimistunnistus (registration certificate) or its part B (section 7). Your VIN is printed on it, in field E: it is all we need to build your system.
- How often: a car (category M1) has its first test no later than 48 months after first registration, then every 24 months up to ten years of age, and every 12 months after that (section 6).
The rules, in short.
Rog exhausts carry no type approval: that is a choice, because a system with type approval sounds almost like the original one, and the valves give you both. Estonia's technical requirements for motor vehicles (Regulation No. 42, annex 1, in force since 1 January 2026) ask a replacement silencer on a car to meet the requirements of UN Regulation No. 59 or Directive 70/157/EEC, to carry its maker's name or trademark, and to be similar in construction and parameters to the original system (code 706). An unauthorised change to the exhaust system is not allowed; changing only the tailpipe end, after the original emissions equipment and silencers and without changing the system's properties, is the exception (codes 701 and 706). Replacement catalytic converters must be E- or e-certified (code 707): that is why we recommend the cat-back in Estonia, which keeps your factory catalytic converter; if you are thinking of replacing the front section too, with our 200-cell sports catalytic converter, ask your test station and Transpordiamet before you order.
The official route is a rebuild (ümberehitus): the owner applies to Transpordiamet, which checks the rebuilt car against the technical requirements in force when the car was first used and, if it meets them, issues a rebuild decision; a state fee applies. Our free technical documentation goes with your application, and Transpordiamet decides. On the road, valves closed in town, your car stays very close to stock, and you open them when you choose; to see where noise cameras are already in use in Europe, see our table of noise cameras in Europe.

Frequently asked questions.
Valves closed, is my car discreet?
Yes: valves closed, the sound stays very close to stock, day to day and at the tehnoülevaatus, and you open the valves when you choose. At the tehnoülevaatus, the inspector decides.
Is noise measured at every tehnoülevaatus?
No: noise is assessed subjectively, and a stationary test with a meter is only carried out when the inspector thinks the level may exceed the one permitted by the manufacturer. The inspector decides.
Will the system fit my car?
Yes: it is built from your VIN, from a 3D scan of the chassis and of the original system, and checked before production. It bolts onto the original mounting points with no welding, at the garage of your choice.
What happens to my catalytic converter?
With a cat-back, it stays in place, with its sensors: in Estonia, it is the configuration we recommend. The catless version is for track use only. At the tehnoülevaatus, the inspector decides.
Does Rog provide documents?
Yes: on request, we send you the technical documentation for your system free of charge, describing your configuration, for the tehnoülevaatus or for an ümberehitus application. For a rebuild, Transpordiamet decides.
