Configuration
Audi R8 / R8 Spyder 42 5.2 V10 Valved Exhaust System (2010-2013)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.

The Audi R8 / R8 Spyder 42 5.2 V10 exhaust in detail.
Derived from the Lamborghini Gallardo’s, the R8 type 42’s V10 5.2 FSI is naturally aspirated and howls beyond 8,000 rpm. It develops 525 hp and 530 Nm, and is among the last engines of its kind ever built. We list the 2010 to 2013 model years for this cat-back; the V8 R8 42 and the facelifted R8 4S have their own page.
On a car like this one, the exhaust is not an accessory, it is the instrument. The V10 climbs with a unique sound progression, deep and menacing below 4,000 rpm, then higher and higher up to the red line. The factory system holds back part of the high harmonics; with the valves open, our valved cat-back releases them. With the valves closed, the supercar becomes a discreet GT.
The system is compact, as always on a mid-engined R8: silencer and valves attach with clamps and gaskets, without welding, in about two hours. If the R8 has factory valves, the system connects to their control; failing that, the Rog remote and its boot-mounted unit operate them.
Upstream, the “Manifold” option replaces the five-outlet manifolds on each bank, with their catalytic converters. On an R8 V10 taken out on the road, the 200-cell manifolds have the advantage of keeping emissions control; the 100-cell ones are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, while the decat ones are reserved for track use. On a naturally aspirated engine, the gain remains modest, 3 to 8% with an ECU remap. For the same design, the titanium version weighs around 40% less than 304 stainless steel and accentuates the V10’s metallic note.

Questions about the Audi R8 / R8 Spyder 42 5.2 V10 exhaust.
My R8 42 V10 dates from 2014: is it covered?
No, 2014 and 2015 are excluded for the cat-back, and 2009 is not covered for the manifolds. Your VIN nevertheless lets us look for a solution before you place an order.
What does an ECU remap bring to the R8 42 V10?
The cat-back does not need one. With the manifolds and a full ECU remap, the page lists 604 hp and 588 Nm for this 525 hp V10, a gain that remains measured on a naturally aspirated engine.
How does the R8 42 V10 present at vehicle inspection with this system?
Present it with the valves closed: the V10 regains the restraint it had when it left the factory. Cat-back only or 200-cell manifolds keep emissions control. 100-cell manifolds are judged according to the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version confines the R8 to the track.
Stainless steel or titanium for the R8 42’s V10?
304 stainless steel gives a full bass and stands the test of time. Titanium weighs around 40% less for the same design and accentuates the metallic note at high revs, with three possible finishes.
Coupé or Spyder: does the R8 42 V10 take the same system?
Yes. The R8 42 V10 coupé and Spyder take the same Rog system: same chassis, same V10 5.2, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Audi R8 / R8 Spyder 42 5.2 V10: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
