The BMW M2 N55 F87 exhaust in detail.
The first-series M2 F87, built from 2016 to 2018, has become what BMW hoped for: a future classic, often compared with the spirit of the E46 M3. Unlike the twin-turbo S engines, its N55 makes do with a single twin-scroll turbo, 370 hp and 465 Nm in a short, wide coupé. The M2 Competition F87, which switched to the S55 in 2018, and the M2 G87 have their own pages.
This single turbo gives the N55 a linear climb and a deeper, more metallic sound than the twin-turbos. Yet its 21.7 kg factory exhaust filters almost everything, to the point that the M2 barely sounds louder than an M240i. This Rog valved cat-back restores the hierarchy: a full bass note and clear crackles on the overrun when the valves open, a civilised M2 when they close.
Fitting calls for no welding: clamps, gaskets and about two hours on a lift, for a system built to your VIN. If your F87 has factory valves, their control is retained; failing that, the Rog remote opens and closes them at any time, regardless of the mode.
On the first M2, the “Manifold” option replaces the downpipe and its catalytic converter; it is with an ECU remap that it releases horsepower, on its own it only changes voice and mass. On this coupé, now a collector’s item, many keep a 200-cell catalysed downpipe, which preserves emissions control; the 100-cell one is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. 304 stainless steel extends the N55’s deep grain, titanium saves around 40% and comes in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW M2 N55 F87 3.0T exhaust.
M2 N55 or M2 Competition: which one is mine?
Until 2018, the M2 F87 has the single-turbo N55 and falls under this page; the Competition, with the twin-turbo S55, has its own. If in any doubt, your VIN decides and we check it before manufacturing.
Can a remapped M2 N55 get close to a Competition?
Yes: with the downpipe and a map from an approved tuner, the published Stage 2 figures for the M2 N55 are 420 hp and 609 Nm, close to an M2 Competition, with nothing required for the cat-back alone.
BMW M2 N55 F87 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the valves closed, it presents with a volume close to stock; as long as the original front section or the 200-cell downpipe stays in place, emissions control remains, the 100-cell version is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
How much does the M2 N55’s factory exhaust weigh, and what do you save?
Our data lists it at 21.7 kg; the Rog titanium cat-back weighs around 40% less than the same design in stainless steel, a welcome saving at the back of such a short coupé.
BMW M2 N55 F87 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW M2 N55 F87 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
