The BMW X3 N55 F25 exhaust in detail.
Behind its family SUV looks, the X3 F25 with the N55 engine hides a 3.0-litre inline-six, boosted by a single twin-scroll turbo and fitted with Valvetronic: 306 hp and 400 Nm, backed by xDrive all-wheel drive. Built from 2011 to 2017, it accelerates with a vigour its appearance does not suggest. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder X3 and the X3 M40i G01 have their own pages.
The BMW inline-six has a round, continuous sound that brightens as the revs climb, with a slight turbo whoosh. In the factory X3, the exhaust makes it sound like any old engine. Open the valves on our cat-back: the N55 gains roundness at idle, and its climb through the revs can be heard clearly in a tone that remains refined; close them, and the X3 becomes the quiet SUV for holiday departures again.
The workshop receives a system bent to your X3’s VIN, which it fits without welding using clamps and gaskets in about two hours; the factory valve control is retained where it exists, otherwise replaced by the two-button Rog remote.
Behind the turbo, the “Manifold” option sells the N55 downpipe with its catalytic converter; fitted alone, it works on voice and weight, not power. This SUV’s N55 keeps its emissions control behind a 200-cell downpipe, ideal for weekday driving; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, with the decat version reserved for track use. Finally, this valved cat-back can be ordered in 304 stainless steel for its robustness, or in titanium, around 40% lighter, available in three colours.

Questions about the BMW X3 N55 F25 3.0T exhaust.
Is the first-year six-cylinder X3 F25, from 2010, covered?
This model year does not appear on our page, which starts in 2011; give us your X3’s VIN: we check compatibility and reply before manufacturing.
What does the X3 N55 become once remapped?
The page quotes 368 hp and 557 Nm at Stage 2, a result that also depends on the automatic gearbox and maintenance; it assumes a downpipe and map, whereas the cat-back fits an otherwise stock X3.
BMW X3 N55 F25 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Why does the X3’s inline-six seem so ordinary from the factory?
Because an SUV’s sound insulation and a heavily muffled system form a double screen; our cat-back removes one of them with the valves open, without affecting comfort with them closed.
Stainless steel or titanium for an X3 driven in the mountains in winter?
304 stainless steel is built for salt and damp; titanium, which does not rust either, is around 40% lighter for the same design and adds a colour.
BMW X3 N55 F25 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW X3 N55 F25 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

BMW X3 N55 F25: the straight-six hidden in an SUV, the exhaust system guide
Behind its family SUV looks, the X3 F25 with the N55 engine hides a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six with 306 hp. It accelerates with ease and keeps the smoothness typical of BMW straight-sixes. The factory exhaust, for its part, does everything...
