The Mercedes-Benz SL350 R230 exhaust in detail.
The 2008 to 2011 model year SL350 R230 entrusts its 316 hp and 360 Nm to a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6, the M272. A smooth, elegant engine that responds without delay and loves to rev: it serves the roadster’s grand touring purpose, geared more towards enjoyment than outright performance. Its V8 big brother, the SL500 R230, has a separate page.
Without forced induction, this V6 depends entirely on its exhaust to express itself. Its clear, melodious voice becomes brighter still as the needle climbs; the factory exhaust holds it back almost completely, to the point that with the roof down you hear the wind more than the engine. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back lets it rev audibly; with the valves closed, the SL regains the serenity of a grand touring roadster.
Only the valved rear system is sold on this page: no front section is offered for the SL350 R230. The original catalytic converters therefore stay in place and emissions control is not modified; no ECU remap is needed.
Four round exits, a system built to your VIN and about two hours of fitting, without welding: the roadster does not tie up your garage for long. Factory valve control retained if the car has it; failing that, the Rog remote in the boot. Titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel for the same design, brightens the V6’s note even further.

Questions about the Mercedes-Benz SL350 R230 3.5 V6 exhaust.
Can an SL350 R230 from the very first model years, 2006 or 2007, be equipped?
The SL350 3.5 is documented from 2006 to 2011, but our catalogue covers the 2008 to 2011 model years. For an older car, send us the VIN: we check compatibility before building.
Should you expect extra horsepower from the V6 of an SL350 R230 fitted with the system?
No, and we do not promise it: the system acts on sound and mass, and the ECU stays stock. For this naturally aspirated V6, the page sells no front section and publishes no Stage 2.
Mercedes-Benz SL350 R230 3.5 V6 M272 with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
No emissions part is replaced on this roadster, as this page includes no front section; on inspection day, simply close the valves to get back a sound close to stock. The 100-cell and decat versions are not offered for the SL350.
Roof folded, does a modified SL350 R230 become noisy on the motorway?
Not if the valves stay closed: the V6 fades behind the wind noise, just as from the factory. You hear it climb through the revs when you open them, on a clear country road.
Mercedes-Benz SL350 R230 3.5 V6: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
