Configuration
BMW M5 F90 4.4T Valved Exhaust (2018-2023)
Valves
Operated by remote control, paired in our workshop.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
Configuration guide
Sound intensity with the valves open, on a scale of 0 to 10.
| Configuration | Intensity |

The BMW M5 F90 exhaust in detail.
The F90 M5 is one of the fastest saloons ever built: a 4.4-litre twin-turbo S63, 600 hp or 625 hp in Competition form, 750 Nm, and switchable all-wheel drive that gives it supercar performance. Built from 2018 to 2023, it could nonetheless pass for a diesel saloon by ear. The preceding F10 M5 and the hybrid G90 M5 have their pages.
The hot-vee layout, with the turbos in the middle of the V, shortens the gas path but also filters out part of the sound; add the particulate filter, silencers sized for a limousine and Active Sound through the speakers, and you get a V8 whose soundtrack partly comes out of the stereo. With the valves open, our cat-back releases a genuine pulse, deep at idle and commanding under load; with the valves closed, the F90 regains the calm of a touring saloon.
No body modification is needed: the system, bent to your VIN, connects with clamps and gaskets in about two hours, and the valves stay under the control of the factory system or the Rog remote.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page sells the S63’s downpipes and their catalytic converters: on a factory map, they bring voice and a slight weight saving, with power only coming with an ECU remap. An F90 used every day stays emissions-controlled with the 200-cell downpipes; the 100-cell ones are accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules; the decat version is reserved for track use. The cat-back comes in 304 stainless steel, with a thick bass note, or in titanium, around 40% lighter.

Questions about the BMW M5 F90 4.4T exhaust.
My M5 F90 is a Competition: does it need a different system?
Yes, the page covers both versions from 2018 to 2023; for a 2017 car, excluded by the supplier, send us the VIN and the workshop will check before building.
What is published for an M5 F90 at Stage 2?
720 hp and 780 Nm, for the 600 hp version as well as the Competition, with downpipes and a remap at an approved tuner; the system alone brings the breathing and the voice, without needing a new map.
Does the vehicle inspection of a tuned M5 F90 call for any precautions?
Simply present it as a stock M5: S63 idling behind closed valves, factory catalytic converters or 200-cell downpipes in place; the 100-cell versions are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Does the F90’s Active Sound keep working?
The system does not touch the electronics; with the valves open, it is simply the real sound of the S63 that comes out of the exhaust, instead of being suggested by the speakers.
Why is the hot-vee S63 so hard to hear?
Because its turbos, housed in the V, already filter the pulses, and the factory system, with a particulate filter and limousine silencers, finishes smothering them.
