The BMW M5 G90 / G99 exhaust in detail.
The M5 G90 saloon and its G99 Touring sister mark a turning point: the 4.4-litre S68 twin-turbo V8, with its turbos between the cylinder banks, works alongside an electric motor and a plug-in battery. The whole delivers a combined 727 hp and 1,000 Nm, sent to all four wheels via M xDrive. This page covers M5s built since 2024; the E60, F10 and F90 M5 have their own pages.
The S68 has a deep, thick voice, with the typical V8 burble on the overrun, but on the factory M5 it arrives filtered by an exhaust that is both bulky and heavy, and the handover between electric and combustion power happens almost without you hearing it. With the valves open, our cat-back turns the V8’s start-up into an event and lets acceleration express itself fully; with the valves closed, both the saloon and the Touring keep the restraint needed in town.
Nothing in the hybrid drivetrain is modified: the system, built to your VIN, is fixed with clamps and gaskets, without welding, in about two hours, with factory valve control retained or a Rog remote.
The “Manifold” option sells the front section that follows the S68’s turbos, with its catalytic converter; on its own, it affects the voice and the weight, with power remaining a matter for an ECU remap by a tuner who knows hybrids. On a latest-generation hybrid M5, the logical choice is to keep a 200-cell catalytic converter and therefore emissions control; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. On such a heavy car, titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel, has one more argument in its favour.

Questions about the BMW M5 G90 / G99 4.4T exhaust.
G99 estate or G90 saloon: does the hybrid M5 need two different systems?
No, just one: the G90 saloon and the G99 Touring take the same Rog system, with the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Can an M5 G90 hybrid be remapped?
The page lists 900 hp and 1,150 Nm in Stage 2 for the saloon, with no figure for the Touring; on such a complex hybrid drivetrain, the work belongs with a tuner who masters the whole system, and the cat-back on its own does not touch it.
BMW M5 G90 / G99 4.4T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Does the M5 G90 keep its silent electric mode?
Yes: the system only acts on the V8’s exhaust gases, and when the M5 runs on electric power, nothing leaves the exhaust; the handover to the combustion engine, however, becomes audible with the valves open.
On an M5 G90 weighing over two tonnes, is titanium worthwhile?
Because on such a heavy car, every kilo counts at the rear: titanium weighs around 40% less than stainless steel for the same design and gives the V8 a clearer note.
BMW M5 G90 / G99 4.4T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW M5 G90 / G99 4.4T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
