The S63 C217 Coupé is AMG's large luxury coupé: a limousine-like cabin, a sleek silhouette and a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 producing 612 hp and 900 Nm. On the 2017 to 2020 model years, this engine is deliberately held back by a factory exhaust tuned for comfort. With this guide, you choose the material, valves and fitting knowing what each option changes, so you decide for yourself what you hear.

The 4.0-litre biturbo V8: the hushed power of the S63 Coupé

On the 2017 to 2020 model years, the S63 C217 Coupé adopts a 4.0-litre V8 with its two turbos housed in the hollow of the V. This compact layout shortens the path of the gases and gives a very direct throttle response. This engine produces 612 hp and 900 Nm, colossal torque that arrives very low down and moves this large coupé with sovereign ease, from a standing start to overtaking on the motorway.

With its two turbos at the centre of the engine, this V8 already has a muffled voice at source, and the factory exhaust pushes it further away to keep the cabin calm. The ROG valved exhaust replaces it without touching the engine or the ECU. It gives you two faces: with the valves closed, the silence of a luxury grand coupé; with them open, the presence of an AMG V8 that no longer hides.

What makes up the exhaust on your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo

Here is what the ROG exhaust replaces, and where the sound is shaped.

How the exhaust system is laid out From left to right: the engine, then the ROG cat-back with its valved silencer and tips.ROG cat-back: the complete exhaustM177
Valves closed: the silencer does its work and the sound stays discreet.Valves open: the direct path opens up and the engine finds its full voice.Schematic only; the actual routing depends on the vehicle.

The cat-back is the complete exhaust system

It is everything you can see under your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo, all the way to the tips: pipes, silencer, valves. This is the part where most of our research and development goes, the part that shapes the sound, and it fits without touching the engine or the ECU.

Your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo in figures

An exhaust system is judged first by ear and on the scales. The extra horsepower comes from an ECU remap.

Power

Factory612 hp
Stage 2684 hp

Torque

Factory900 Nm
Stage 2950 Nm

Published manufacturer and Stage 2 figures.

The ROG exhaust works with or without an ECU remap. To get the full potential out of your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo, we recommend taking it to an approved tuning centre afterwards.

With two turbos and already considerable torque, this V8 keeps headroom that a Stage 2 remap knows how to exploit. Quoted figures are around 684 hp and 950 Nm, depending on the condition of the engine and transmission and on the tuner's choices. The ROG exhaust claims none of these figures; it simply gives a voice to the available power.

Configuring your exhaust, step by step

2 choices, in the same order as the product page configurator.

  1. Step 1 of 2: Material: stainless steel or titanium

For your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo, the exhaust costs €3,990 in stainless steel and €4,990 in titanium.

    304 stainless steel

    3 990 €

    Weight
    Baseline
    Sound
    Full and rounded

The safe bet: strong, corrosion-proof, with a full, rounded sound. The best value for money.

    Titanium

    4 990 €

    Weight
    Around 40% lighter
    Sound
    Metallic, crystal-clear

It makes the exhaust around 40% lighter for the same design. Its note is more metallic and clearer higher up the rev range, and its finish ranges from brushed to blued.

No worries on durability: 304 stainless steel shrugs off winter road salt and titanium does not rust. Stainless steel or titanium: what really changes.

  2. Step 2 of 2: Valves: ROG remote or factory control

Two ways to control the valves on your Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 Coupé V8 biturbo.

    ROG remote

ROG remote for opening and closing the valves

A discreet control unit in the boot and a two-button remote: you open and close whenever you like, independently of the drive modes. For fitting, we support you by phone or by email.

    Factory control

    • Only for vehicles fitted with factory valves
    • Controlled by the drive modes

For vehicles fitted with factory valves: the exhaust connects to their control and the drive modes stay in charge, with no extra control unit.

At 130 km/h, many sports exhausts drone. Here, with the valves closed, the exhaust flows through the silencer and stays composed when cruising; open, it makes itself heard when you choose. More about exhaust drone.

The ROG sound signature on the S63 Coupé's biturbo V8

The AMG biturbo V8 has a deep, thick voice, with a characteristic burble at idle and a growl that swells as the load increases. On the S63 Coupé, the factory exhaust keeps it at a distance: you feel the thrust, but the engine remains a distant, almost erased background sound.

At the touch of a button, the ROG exhaust valves open and the V8 makes itself heard from start-up and every time you accelerate, with a deep tone in keeping with the coupé's standing. With the valves closed, the S63 regains its composure as a grand tourer, perfect for dinner in town or a long motorway stretch.
