Mercedes-AMGS63 / S65 C217 / A217
The Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 4.0 exhaust in detail.
From the 2017 model year and until 2020, the S63 C217 adopted the M177, a 4.0-litre V8 with its two turbos nestled in the vee. The compact layout shortens the gas path and gives a very direct response; 612 hp and 900 Nm move the large coupé with sovereign ease. The preceding S63 C217 5.5 has its own page.
With its turbos in the centre, this V8 already has a muted voice at the source, and the factory exhaust pushes it further away. Yet it is deep and thick, with a rolling idle and a rumble that swells under load. At the touch of a button, the Rog cat-back’s valves open and the engine makes itself heard at start-up and every time you accelerate; closed, the coupé regains the silence of a great cruiser.
This page sells the valved rear system alone: no front section is offered for this coupé’s M177, for lack of a proven part. The factory catalytic converter stays in place and emissions control is not modified.
Fitting takes about two hours, clamps and gaskets, without welding, on a system built to your VIN. Factory valve control if the coupé has it, otherwise the Rog remote. The tips, carried by the bumper as on the W222, do not change. Two materials are listed on the page: 304 stainless steel and titanium, the latter around 40% lighter.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 4.0 V8 biturbo exhaust.
Does the S63 C217 4.0 system fit an S63 C217 5.5?
No: the switch from the 5.5 to the 4.0-litre changes the system, and each engine has its own page. This one covers the 4.0-litre from 2017 to 2020; for a 2017 model year, your VIN tells us which one you have.
Does the S63 C217 4.0 need an ECU remap?
Not with this system, which stops after the original catalytic converter. The page publishes a Stage 2 of around 684 hp and 950 Nm, but no front section is sold here: that figure comes from a complete tune, outside the scope of this page.
And at the vehicle inspection, with an S63 C217 4.0 fitted with the system?
Nothing changes for emissions control: the factory catalytic converter stays in place. Present the coupé with the valves closed, at a volume close to standard. There is neither a 100-cell nor a decat version here.
Does a modified S63 C217 4.0 stay quiet in town?
Yes, with the valves closed: the flow passes through the silencer and the coupé keeps its reserve for dinner in town. You open them on a clear road, at the press of a button.
Does the S63 Cabriolet A217 4.0 take the same system as the coupé?
Yes. The C217 coupé and the A217 convertible, sold as a 4.0 from 2018 to 2020, take the same Rog system, rear silencers included, with the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 4.0 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 4.0 V8 biturbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
