Mercedes-AMGS63 / S65 C217 / A217
The Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 5.5 exhaust in detail.
The S-Class grand coupé, the 2014 to 2017 S63 C217 receives the 5.5-litre M157 twin-turbo V8 with direct injection: 585 hp and 900 Nm, massive and continuous thrust, as at home cruising as when driven hard. From 2017, the coupé switched to the 4.0-litre, which has its own page, as does the V12 S65 C217.
This V8’s voice is deep and rich: a characteristic rumble at start-up, a broad, muffled climb. The heavy, highly restrictive factory exhaust keeps it behind a padded door. The Rog valved cat-back lets you decide: closed, the hushed refinement of an S-Class coupé for long stages; open, a hoarse start-up and a massive rumble under acceleration, finally in tune with the power.
Nothing to weld or cut: the system, built to your VIN, is fixed with clamps and gaskets in about two hours. Factory valve control kept if the coupé has it; otherwise, the Rog remote. As on the W222 saloon, the tips belong to the bumper and the system stops just behind them.
Under the “Manifold” option, the page sells the catalysed downpipe of this twin-turbo, limited to the 5.5-litre. Chosen in 200-cell form, it keeps emissions control and suits grand touring. In 100-cell form, it is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country; without a catalytic converter, the part is reserved for track use, a rare use for a coupé of this size. None of them adds power without an ECU remap. 304 stainless steel underlines the V8’s bass; titanium, around 40% lighter, brightens it at high revs.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 5.5 V8 biturbo exhaust.
Is my 2017 S63 C217 a 5.5 or a 4.0?
The 2017 model year marks the turning point between the two engines: this page covers the 5.5-litre from 2014 to 2017, and the 4.0-litre has its own. Your VIN lets us decide before starting manufacturing.
How far does the page take an S63 C217 5.5 at Stage 2?
The page publishes 710 hp and 1,100 Nm, from 585 hp and 900 Nm stock, with downpipe and full ECU remap; torque benefits in particular. Without an ECU remap, the rear system pairs effortlessly with the factory tune.
How should a modified S63 C217 5.5 be prepared for its vehicle inspection?
Valves closed, with the factory front section or a 200-cell downpipe, it keeps its emissions control and a stock volume. The 100-cell is a special case, accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules. The decat version is reserved for track use and is not presented for inspection.
Does my S63 Cabriolet A217 share the system of this C217 coupé?
Yes. The C217 coupé and the A217 convertible, sold as a 5.5 from 2016 to 2017, take the same Rog system, rear silencers included, with the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Mercedes-AMG S63 C217 / A217 5.5 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
