The Mercedes-AMG S63 W222 5.5 exhaust in detail.
The 2017 model year S63 W222 is one of the last to receive the M157, a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8: 585 hp and 900 Nm for an imposing limousine. The following year, the S63 switched to the 4.0-litre, for which this page does not apply. The S500 and S450 are not covered either; the V12 S65 W222 has its own system.
From the factory, this V8’s voice sleeps under silencers designed for the silence of the rear lounge. The Rog cat-back, valved or valve exhaust, wakes up the deep rumble at idle, the volcanic climb under load, the bangs when you lift off. With the valves closed, your S-Class regains intact cruising comfort. A detail specific to this chassis: the tips are carried by the bumper, and our system stops just behind them.
Fitting, without welding, takes about two hours: clamps, gaskets, a system built to your VIN. The valves stay controlled by the factory control if the S63 has one, otherwise by the Rog remote.
For this twin-turbo, the page offers the catalysed downpipe under the “Manifold” option, validated for the 2017 model year only. In 200-cell form, the downpipe keeps emissions control, which suits a limousine of this standing. The 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat variant is reserved for track use, far from the rear lounge. Without an ECU remap, no extra horsepower. Titanium lightens the system by around 40% compared with 304 stainless steel, which remains the safe bet.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG S63 W222 5.5 V8 biturbo exhaust.
My S63 W222 is a 2018 model with the 4.0-litre engine: can I order this system?
No: from 2018, the S63 W222 switches to the 4.0-litre V8, and our page limits this system and its front section to the 2017 5.5-litre. Your VIN removes any ambiguity before manufacturing. On the V12 side, the S65 W222 has a dedicated page.
What figures does the page list for a tuned S63 W222 5.5?
At Stage 2, with downpipe and full map, the V8 goes from 585 hp and 900 Nm to 693 hp and 1,208 Nm according to our data. The cat-back on its own requires no work on the ECU and acts on sound and mass.
The day before a vehicle inspection, what should be set on a modified S63 W222?
Valves closed, cat-back alone or 200-cell downpipe: the limousine keeps its catalytic converters active and a volume close to stock. If you have chosen the 100-cell, it will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules. As for the decat downpipe, it is reserved for track use and has no place at an inspection.
Do the S63 W222’s tips change with the Rog system?
No: on this chassis, the tips are carried by the bumper and our system stops just behind them. The rear therefore keeps its original look; only the sound changes when the valves open.
Mercedes-AMG S63 W222 5.5 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Mercedes-AMG S63 W222 5.5 V8 biturbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
