    Mercedes-AMGS63 / S65 W222

    The Mercedes-AMG S65 W222 / V222 exhaust in detail.

Twelve cylinders, two turbos, 6.0 litres: the S65 W222’s M279 delivers 630 hp and 1,000 Nm to the rear wheels, torque available almost from idle that moves this large limousine with surreal ease. The page covers the 2014 to 2019 model years; the V8 S63 W222 and the S65 C217 coupé have their own.

A V12 does not rumble like a V8. Its voice is smooth, continuous, almost silky, and grows richer with every climb through the revs. Between the turbos, which already filter the pulses, and an exhaust designed for calm, this song now arrives only as a distant whisper. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back restores its fullness: a hushed but deep start-up, acceleration in a long wave of sound, downshifts of great roundness. With the valves closed, the limousine becomes silent again for your passengers.

Fitting: about two hours, with clamps and gaskets, no welding, on a valved system built to your VIN. The valves keep their original control if they have one; otherwise, the Rog remote. As on the other W222s, the tips are carried by the bumper and the system stops behind it.

Under the “Manifold” option, the page also sells the V12’s catalysed downpipe. In 200-cell form, emissions control is retained; the 100-cell, whose acceptance depends on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version, reserved for track use, stray from the car’s purpose. Without an ECU remap, the part only changes the sound. 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter for the same design: both materials are offered.

    Questions about the Mercedes-AMG S65 W222 / V222 6.0 V12 biturbo exhaust.

Does a 2020 model year S65 W222 fall under this page?

Our page covers the 2014 to 2019 S65 W222 and excludes 2020, for the system as for the downpipe. With the VIN, we check each particular case before building. The S65 C217 coupé has a separate page.

A remapped S65 W222: what does the page say?

It publishes 750 hp and 1,185 Nm at Stage 2, against 630 hp and 1,000 Nm, downpipe included. On engineering of this level, the work belongs to a specialist and the transmission has to keep up. Fitted alone, the cat-back leaves the V12’s ECU as it is.

What should be planned for the vehicle inspection of an S65 W222 fitted with the system?

Presented with the valves closed, with the cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe, it keeps its limousine sound level and its gases treated. A 100-cell downpipe will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules. The decat version is reserved for track use, which hardly suits a limousine often driven by a chauffeur.

The S65 W222’s V12 or the S63’s V8: what to expect with the valves open?

The S63’s V8 rumbles, with a deep idle and bangs on the overrun. The S65’s V12 sings: a smooth, continuous, denser voice that rises in a long wave. The Rog system frees both, with the valves open.

    Mercedes-AMG S65 W222 / V222 6.0 V12 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.

    Mercedes-AMG S65 W222 / V222 V12 biturbo: the V12 breaks its silence, the exhaust system guide

At the top of the W222 S-Class range, the S65 is one of the last V12-engined limousines: six litres, two turbos, 630 hp and 1,000 Nm. Yet to preserve silence on board, the factory exhaust reduces these twelve cylinders to...
