With 320 hp and 420 Nm, the EA888 four-cylinder of the Golf 8 R remains surprisingly muted from the factory. The Volkswagen option delivers one sound, set by the drive modes. The Rog system lets you choose:

  • the character, at the same price: straight pipe for the raw sound of the 2.0 TSI, or resonator for a rounder, slightly softer voice;
  • the material: 304 stainless steel, or titanium about 40% lighter for the same design, in a brushed, gold or purple finish;
  • the control: the factory drive modes keep controlling the valves, or the Rog remote, included in the price;
  • the front section: downpipe with a 200-cell or 100-cell sports catalytic converter; the decat version is for track use only.

Valves open, the R gains a full tone, real presence under load and crisp crackles on lift-off. Valves closed, it returns to a calm cruise, without highway drone. Four round black tailpipes finish the system, which fits without welding, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours.
