Akrapovič vs Rog: how to choose your exhaust
Updated: 14 October 2026. Akrapovič specifications taken on 14 October 2026 from the brand's official website, which publishes no prices; public prices taken the same day from the official Akrapovič agent in France; sources at the end of the article.
Akrapovič (often typed Akrapovic) is the name everyone mentions when talking about performance exhausts. Rog takes a different approach: a semi-custom valved exhaust, made to order from your car's VIN, whose sound you choose before it is manufactured.
Both brands offer high-end systems, but for different priorities. Here are the facts taken from their official pages, the real differences, then a comparison table and our advice on how to choose.
Akrapovič at a glance.
Founded in 1991 in Slovenia, Akrapovič made its name in motorcycle racing before establishing itself on performance cars. The brand casts its own titanium parts in its foundry, opened in 2009, and was already reporting 100 world championship titles in 2015. What its official pages tell us:
- Named product lines: Slip-On Line (the rear muffler, with the stock mid-pipe left in place), Evolution Line (a longer system, mid-pipe included, sometimes sold under two part numbers), optional link pipes and downpipes, and a Sound Kit to control the valves from the cabin.
- Titanium and carbon: most car systems are made of titanium, with carbon-sleeved tailpipes.
- Published figures: power and torque gains measured on the brand's dyno, weight, fitting time, plus downloadable schematics and instructions.
- ECE type approval (Regulation R59) for some systems, under precise conditions. On the BMW M3 G80, for example, the Slip-On Line certificate only applies to cars fitted with a particulate filter and the S58B30C engine (Euro 6 phase III), not to the CS and CSL, and it no longer applies if you add the link pipes, the downpipes or the Sound Kit.
- Sold through retailers: the official website shows no prices and points you to a retailer in your country.
- Sound you can hear: for several models, the website compares a recording of the stock exhaust with the Akrapovič system.
The real differences with Akrapovič.
Reading the official product pages model by model, five points come up that are worth knowing before you buy:
- Often, the rear muffler only. On the BMW M2 G87, M3 G80 and M4 G82, the only Akrapovič system with ECE type approval is a Slip-On: the rear muffler, without the mid-pipe, which stays stock. The same goes for the M240i F22 / F23 fitted with a particulate filter, whose stock exhaust has to be cut for fitting. "Evolution" mid-pipes exist as options, but the brand reserves them for the track: they require a remap and void the ECE type approval.
- Mandatory parts sold separately. Tailpipes on the M2, M3 and M4; a valve control kit on the M3, M4 and RS3; a second part number to order with the system on the M240i without particulate filter and on the RS6 C8. The brand lists them as required parts, but each has its own part number, and so its own price at the dealer.
- One sound, the brand's. In its type-approved configuration, each model has only one Akrapovič system, and so only one sound: no choice of design (Equal Length, Z-pipe), character (straight pipe or resonator) or intensity; among the systems we checked, only the M240i with particulate filter has a manually adjustable acoustic reflector. The valves are controlled by the car or by the brand's kit; to switch between quiet and sport mode yourself, you need the Sound Kit, sold separately where it exists for the model; every product page we checked states that fitting it voids the ECE type approval.
- A deliberately restrained sound. A type-approved system has to stay within the noise limits set by its approval (ECE Regulation R59 for a replacement exhaust). The Akrapovič sound therefore stays measured: an enthusiast who wants a car with much more presence may find it too discreet. To go further, the brand only offers parts reserved for the track.
- The Evolution Line, more complete, but not everywhere. On the Audi RS3 8Y, the Evolution Line includes the mid-pipe, connected to the stock downpipes. On the M240i F22 / F23 without particulate filter, the Evolution Line exists in stainless steel only, with EC type approval; no titanium version is in the catalog.
At Rog, on the models covered here, the system is a cat-back: mid-pipes, muffler, valves and outlets, with the Rog remote included and Rog tailpipes at no extra cost. The sound is chosen before manufacture, configuration by configuration.
How much does an Akrapovič exhaust cost.
Akrapovič publishes no public prices: neither its official website nor its product pages show any, for any country. In place of a price, each product page offers to find a dealer in your country; in France, the official network has one agent and around twenty dealers (checked on 14 October 2026). We therefore quote the public prices of the official Akrapovič agent in France, taken in October 2026: with all mandatory parts added up, the complete systems listed below cost from around €3,800 to over €10,700, fitting not included. The final price depends on your dealer.
To compare, ask for a quote for the complete system. According to the official product pages, it should include:
- BMW M3 G80 / M4 G82: the Slip-On Line (Titanium), a set of tailpipes and a valve control kit, both mandatory, for a total from around €8,300;
- BMW M2 G87: the Slip-On Line (Titanium) and a set of tailpipes, which is mandatory, for a total from around €7,000;
- Audi RS3 8Y: the Evolution Line (Titanium) and a control kit, which is mandatory, for a total from around €6,700 for the Sportback and €6,900 for the Sedan;
- BMW M240i F22 / F23 without particulate filter: the stainless-steel Evolution Line (SS) and its mid-pipes, sold under a second part number to be ordered at the same time, for a total from around €3,800;
- Audi RS6 Avant C8 with particulate filter: the Evolution Line (Titanium) and its stainless-steel link pipes, a mandatory second part number, for a total from around €10,700.
The Sound Kit, to control the valves from the cabin, remains an option, as does fitting. These systems are expensive for good reasons: titanium is costly to form, each system is developed and measured by the brand, some are certified, and sales go through a dealer network.
Rog at a glance.
Rog does not sell a part number taken from stock: each valved exhaust is made to order, from your car's VIN, for 418 models from 28 makes. On the models covered here, it is a cat-back: the whole exhaust after the catalytic converter, mid-pipes included, up to the outlets. The idea is simple: you choose the sound before manufacture.
- The design: on BMW M six-cylinders (M2 G87, M3 G80 and M4 G82, among others), Standard, Equal Length or Equal Length + Z-pipe; on many other cars, straight pipe or resonator, at the same price.
- The material: 304 stainless steel, or titanium in a brushed, gold or purple finish.
- The valves: controlled by the factory drive modes when the car has them, or by the Rog remote, included in the price.
- The front section, when it is useful on your engine: downpipe with a 200-cell or 100-cell sports catalytic converter; the decat version is for track use only.
- The intensity: each product page places each configuration on a scale from 0 to 10, valves open. With the valves closed, the car stays close to its original sound.
On the service side: free delivery, 20 working days between order confirmation and delivery, a 3-year warranty on parts and workmanship, a website and configurator in 21 languages, and written replies in your language. The system is fitted at the garage of your choice; on the models covered below, without welding, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours. It is available from €2,190 depending on the model, Rog remote included.

What Akrapovič does better.
- ECE type approval on some systems, with a downloadable certificate: a real argument if you want an approved part, in the configuration the brand intends.
- Brand recognition: everyone knows the name, including used-car buyers.
- Published data: power curves, weight and sound recordings, model by model.
- Availability: depending on the retailer, a system may be in stock and delivered within days.
What Rog does differently.
- You choose the sound before the system is built, instead of getting the same sound as every other car of the model.
- The whole system: on the models covered here, the mid-pipe is part of the system, instead of staying stock as with a Slip-On.
- The price is easy to read: the product page shows a ready-to-fit system, remote included, and each option shows its surcharge.
- Stainless steel or titanium, your choice, with three titanium finishes.
- A 3-year warranty and free delivery.
- A contact who replies in writing in your language, before and after you order.
The trade-offs: a system made for your car is never in stock, so allow 20 working days; and it has no ECE certificate.
How to choose, in four questions.
- Do you need an ECE-approved part? If so, check whether Akrapovič offers one for your car, and in which configuration.
- Do you want to choose your sound? To decide on the tone (higher, rounder or rawer) and the intensity, a configurable system like Rog's is the better fit.
- What is your budget for the complete system? Add up the mandatory parts (tailpipes, control kit, second part number) and ask for a complete quote before comparing.
- Can you wait four weeks? A system made to order needs that time; a system in stock can arrive sooner.

Frequently asked questions.
What is the best alternative to Akrapovič?
It depends on your priority. If ECE type approval comes first, stay with the systems that have it. If you want a complete system whose sound and material you choose, Rog offers a semi-custom valved exhaust, made to order from your VIN, in stainless steel or titanium, with a 3-year warranty.
How much is a complete Akrapovič exhaust?
Akrapovič does not publish prices. At the public prices of the official Akrapovič agent in France (October 2026), with all mandatory parts added up, allow from around €8,300 for a BMW M3 G80 or M4 G82, €7,000 for an M2 G87, €6,700 for an Audi RS3 8Y, €3,800 for an M240i F22 / F23 without particulate filter and €10,700 for an Audi RS6 Avant C8 with particulate filter, excluding fitting and the Sound Kit.
Why is Akrapovič so expensive?
Titanium is costly to work, each system is developed and measured by the brand, some are certified, and sales go through dealers. The brand does not publish its prices: ask for a quote for the complete system, with the tailpipes, the control kit or the second part number when they are mandatory.
Does an Akrapovič system replace the whole exhaust?
Not always. On the BMW M2 G87, M3 G80 and M4 G82, the only Akrapovič system with ECE type approval is a Slip-On: it replaces the rear muffler, and the stock mid-pipe stays in place. The Evolution Line goes further, as on the Audi RS3 8Y. The Rog system is a cat-back, mid-pipe included.
Do Akrapovič systems have ECE type approval?
Some do, under conditions published by the brand: for example a car fitted with a particulate filter, without link pipes, downpipes or Sound Kit. Check the page for your model. Rog systems have no ECE certificate.
Can you choose the sound of a Rog system before buying?
Yes: you choose the design, the material and, depending on the model, the character (straight pipe or resonator). The product page places each configuration on an intensity scale from 0 to 10, valves open.
How long does a Rog system take to arrive?
20 working days between order confirmation and delivery, manufacturing included. Delivery is free.
