The BMW 550i N63 F10 / F11 exhaust in detail.
Beneath a perfectly understated 5 Series silhouette, the 550i F10 of the 2011 to 2013 model years hides a twin-turbo V8: the N63, whose two turbos sit in the centre of the vee, between the cylinder banks, to shorten the gas path and improve response. It delivers 407 hp and 600 Nm, a dense thrust that turns the large saloon into a very fast grand tourer. Its big sister, the M5 F10, and the 535i N55 each have a separate page.
Behind its turbos, a V8 keeps the deep rumble typical of eight cylinders, but the bulky factory exhaust only lets a distant growl through under acceleration. With the valves open, our cat-back lets the N63 rumble openly at start-up and swell with every roll-on; closed, they give the 550i back the refinement of a great German saloon, silent on the motorway as in town.
In the garage, the V8 changes nothing about the simplicity of fitting: clamps, gaskets, no welding, about two hours, for a system made to your VIN whose valves answer to the factory control or the Rog remote.
The “Manifold” option sells the front section that follows the N63’s turbos; fitted with a factory map, it affects the voice and the weight, and it is the ECU remap that turns it into horsepower. For a V8 driven every day, the 200-cell catalyst maintains exhaust gas treatment; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. This valved cat-back comes in 304 stainless steel, which thickens the V8’s bass, or in titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW 550i N63 F10 / F11 exhaust.
Can a 2010 or 2014 550i, or an F11 Touring, be equipped?
Yes for the F11 Touring: the F10 saloon and the F11 Touring take the same Rog system, with the same N63 V8 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a 2010 or 2014 550i, outside the years covered by this page, send us the VIN: we check before manufacturing.
What figures does a remapped 550i F10’s V8 reach?
The published Stage 2 figures for the 550i F10 are 494 hp and 746 Nm, with the front section and a map from an approved tuner, on a healthy, well-maintained engine; the cat-back alone does not touch the ECU.
In what state should a modified 550i F10 be presented at vehicle inspection?
That of a standard saloon: factory or 200-cell front section so that the catalytic converter keeps working, valves closed so that the V8 regains its hushed tone; in 100-cell form, the car is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Why does a V8 with its turbos inside the V sound so discreet from the factory?
The turbos placed at the centre of the engine already filter part of the sound, and the factory exhaust finishes the job; our cat-back does not modify the engine, it simply lets the rumble through with the valves open.
Will the 550i drone on long journeys?
No: with the valves closed, the cruising silencer does its work and the saloon keeps its tranquillity, with the V8 only making itself heard when you choose.
BMW 550i N63 F10 / F11: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
