The BMW M140i F20 / F21 exhaust in detail.
The last compact with rear-wheel drive and six cylinders, as an F20 five-door or an F21 three-door, the M140i hides a 3.0-litre B58 with a twin-scroll turbo under its bonnet: 340 hp and 500 Nm. This system is for its 2017 to 2019 model years. Its value is no longer falling and owners are keeping theirs; the only false note for a car of this calibre is that you can barely hear it. The M135i N55 and the 340i F30, which shares its engine, have their own pages.
Toyota chose this same B58 for its Supra, proof of its qualities, but an oversized filter and silencers reduce its round, metallic voice to a whisper from the factory. With the valves open, our cat-back, which many call a valved exhaust, releases a round bass note at idle, a consistent climb to the limiter and crisp crackles, without tiring drone. Closed again, they return the M140i to its sleeper discretion.
The system, built to your VIN, attaches with high-strength band clamps and gaskets in about two hours on a lift, without any welding. An M140i that has kept its factory valves continues to control them through the driving modes; without them, the Rog remote does the job with two buttons.
The “Manifold” option targets the downpipe, which carries the catalytic converter at the turbo outlet: with a factory map, it adds sound and removes a little weight, and it is the ECU remap that turns it into power. For an M140i that remains the everyday car, the 200-cell downpipe keeps exhaust gas treatment, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. For the cat-back, 304 stainless steel or titanium around 40% lighter, in a brushed, gold or purple finish.

Questions about the BMW M140i B58 F20 / F21 3.0T exhaust.
Is the three-door M140i F21 covered?
Yes. The F20 five-door and the F21 three-door take the same Rog system, with the same B58 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a 2016 car, before the years covered by this page, your VIN lets us check the model year before manufacturing.
Remapping an M140i: at what point does it become worthwhile?
As soon as the downpipe joins the cat-back, because the map then turns the freed-up flow into power: the published Stage 2 figures for the M140i are 440 hp and 620 Nm, with no requirement at all for the cat-back alone.
What should be planned for an M140i going through its vehicle inspection?
Close the valves and the hatchback regains a voice very close to stock; with the 200-cell downpipe or the standard front section, the catalytic converter stays active, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Stainless steel or titanium: which sounds best on the M140i?
304 stainless steel gives the B58 a full, round sound, the choice of most buyers; titanium sounds clearer at the top of the rev counter and weighs around 40% less for the same design.
Will the M140i’s driving modes continue to control the valves?
Yes, if your car has them from the factory: the system takes over the control and Comfort or Sport decide as before; without factory valves, the Rog remote overrides the selected mode.
BMW M140i B58 F20 / F21 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW M140i B58 F20 / F21 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
