The BMW M240i F22 / F23 exhaust in detail.
BMW’s first compact coupé to receive the B58, the M240i F22 pairs a playful chassis with a remarkably flexible 3.0-litre inline-six, 340 hp and 500 Nm. It has become a safe bet on the used market. This page covers the F22 coupé and the F23 convertible from 2017 to 2019; the M235i before it and the M240i G42 after it have their own system and page.
On the F22 coupé, the factory exhaust did not keep up with the engine’s ambition: too smooth, it hides a round, metallic tone. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back gives it back a deep rumble at idle, a full note right up the rev range and crisp crackles on lift-off; with the valves closed, the M240i remains a discreet coupé for everyday journeys.
This valved cat-back, built to your VIN, is fitted with band clamps and gaskets, no welding, in about two hours on a lift. If the M240i has factory valves, the drive modes keep controlling them; otherwise the Rog remote operates them with two buttons, whatever the mode.
On this turbocharged six-cylinder, the “Manifold” option corresponds to the downpipe and its catalytic converter: without an ECU remap, expect sound and a little lightness from it, with power coming from the map. Three catalyst levels await you: the 200-cell, which leaves the M240i with its emissions control as from the factory, the 100-cell, accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version, reserved for track use. That leaves the material: 304 stainless steel, or titanium that removes around 40% of the weight, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW M240i F22 / F23 3.0T exhaust.
Are the M240i F23 convertible and 2016 cars covered?
Yes for the F23 convertible: the F22 coupé and the F23 convertible take the same Rog system, with the same B58 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a 2016 car, before the years covered by this page, send us the VIN: we check before manufacturing.
A remapped M240i F22: how much horsepower?
At Stage 2, with the downpipe and a map by an approved tuner, the published figures for the 340 hp M240i reach 440 hp and 620 Nm; the cat-back does perfectly well without.
Is the modified F22 coupé presentable at the vehicle inspection?
With the valves closed, it comes as close as possible to its factory volume; the factory front section or the 200-cell downpipe preserve emissions control, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
On the M240i F22, who controls the opening of the valves?
With the factory control, it is the Comfort and Sport modes, with no added box; with the Rog remote, it is you, at any time, whatever the selected mode.
Will the M240i drone on long journeys?
No, with the valves closed, the system routes the gases through the cruising silencer and the coupé stays composed at 130 km/h; the inline-six only makes itself heard at your request.
BMW M240i F22 / F23 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
