Valved Exhaust System for Honda S2000 AP1 F20 (1999-2003)
Configuration
Honda S2000 AP1 F20 Valved Exhaust System (1999-2003)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
Configuration guide
Sound intensity with the valves open, on a scale of 0 to 10.
| Configuration | Intensity |
|---|---|
| Decat manifolds + Rog cat-back | 10/10 |
| 100-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 9/10 |

The Honda S2000 AP1 F20 exhaust in detail.
The S2000 AP1’s F20C has two voices: a dry, hoarse tone in the mid-range, then, when the VTEC switches to its most aggressive cams, a high, taut scream that seems never to end. This naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder, 240 hp with 208 Nm, long served as the benchmark for specific output, and all its character plays out at the top of the rev counter.
The factory exhaust hints at this change of register but rounds off its edges and keeps it far from the cabin. With the valves open, the Rog valved cat-back makes the VTEC changeover sharp and spectacular, especially with the roof down; with the valves closed, the roadster returns to a well-behaved sound for everyday journeys. The page is for the 1999 to 2003 AP1; the AP2 has its own page, and your VIN is checked before manufacturing.
The roadster gets its system in about two hours, without welding, and its valves respond to the factory control if it has one, otherwise to the Rog remote, whose unit finds its place in the small boot.
On this naturally aspirated front-mid-mounted engine, the “Manifold” option sells the manifolds themselves, with integrated catalytic converter, and their geometry matters: with an ECU remap, the gain is real but modest, in the order of 3 to 8%, and without one it is the F20C’s voice that asserts itself. With 200 cells, the AP1 keeps its emissions control; with 100 cells, it is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country; and the decat version is reserved for track use, for S2000s that spend their weekends there. 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter, in a brushed, gold or purple finish, exits through round tips.

Questions about the Honda S2000 AP1 F20 exhaust.
AP1 or AP2: does the S2000 system change with the generation?
Yes: same chassis, same high-revving logic, and a single Rog system serves both the AP1 and the AP2; the manifolds are also shared by the F20C and the F22C. Each version keeps its own page, and we check your VIN before manufacturing.
Does the S2000 AP1’s F20C gain anything from a new map?
Nothing essential with the cat-back, which lets the VTEC work as from the factory; with the manifolds, the better cylinder filling translates into a few per cent, roughly 3 to 8%, because on this engine people come for the voice first.
S2000 AP1 and vehicle inspection: which configuration should be presented?
Valves closed and factory or 200-cell manifolds: the roadster regains a well-behaved sound and active emissions control. An AP1 with 100-cell manifolds will be judged according to the country and the car, and a decat AP1 does not leave the track.
With the roof down, does the S2000 AP1 with a Rog system become tiring on the motorway?
No, if the valves are closed: the system keeps a composed sound at a steady speed. You open them for a mountain road, where the VTEC changeover deserves to be heard in full.
Honda S2000 AP1 F20: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Honda S2000 AP1 F20: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Honda S2000 AP1 and AP2: the four-cylinder that screams, the exhaust system guide
The Honda S2000 was designed around an engine: a naturally aspirated four-cylinder with VTEC variable valve timing, able to rev higher than most sports cars of its era. The 1999 to 2003 AP1 and the 2004 to 2009 AP2 share...
