    A question about this exhaust?

    HondaS2000 AP1 / AP2

The Honda S2000 AP2 exhaust in detail.

With the AP2, the S2000 adopted the F22C, a 2.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, or kept the F20C depending on the market. The F22C’s longer stroke takes away a little top-end reach but adds torque: 242 hp and 221 Nm, for the 2004 to 2009 model years. This page is for the AP2; the 1999 to 2003 AP1 has its own, and your VIN confirms compatibility before manufacturing.

No turbo to carry the sound: everything comes from the revs, and the most eagerly awaited moment remains the VTEC switching to its high cams. From the factory, the AP2 keeps it at a distance from the cabin. With the Rog valved cat-back, also known as a valved exhaust, the crisp mid-range tone gives way to a taut scream all the way to the red line, valves open; with them closed, the roadster adopts a civil voice for long stages.

With clamps and gaskets, without any welding, installation takes about two hours, and the valves are controlled via the factory switch if the AP2 has one, or via the two-button Rog remote.

Here the “Manifold” option replaces the original manifolds, shared by the AP1’s F20C and the AP2’s F22C: same cylinder head, same flange, same sensor. On this naturally aspirated engine, replacing them together with an ECU remap brings a real but modest gain of around 3 to 8%. In its 200-cell version, the part keeps the roadster’s emissions control, the 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use, for an AP2 prepared for the track. The system comes in 304 stainless steel or titanium around 40% lighter, in brushed, gold or purple, with round tailpipes.

Questions about the Honda S2000 AP2 exhaust.

My S2000 AP2 has kept the F20C: does the system suit it?

Yes: depending on the market, the AP2 received the F22C or kept the F20C, and the manifolds are shared by both engines. The page covers the AP2 from 2004 to 2009; we check your VIN before building.

Does the F22C of an S2000 AP2 need an ECU remap after fitting?

Not for the cat-back: VTEC keeps switching over just as from the factory. If you change the manifolds, an ECU remap can extract a gain of around 3 to 8%, consistent with a 242 hp naturally aspirated engine.

How should a modified S2000 AP2 be presented at vehicle inspection?

With the valves closed, for a voice close to stock, and factory or 200-cell manifolds, for intact emissions control. The 100-cell is judged according to the vehicle and the country’s rules, and the decat manifolds are reserved for the circuit.

Are the S2000 AP2 manifolds worthwhile on a naturally aspirated engine?

Yes, more than on a turbo: with no turbine downstream, their geometry acts directly on cylinder filling and on the VTEC scream. If only the voice interests you, the cat-back is enough; to tune the engine, manifolds and an ECU remap go together.

Honda S2000 AP2: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.

Honda S2000 AP2: straight pipe or resonator?

On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Honda S2000 AP1 and AP2: the four-cylinder that screams, the exhaust system guide

The Honda S2000 was designed around an engine: a naturally aspirated four-cylinder with VTEC variable valve timing, able to rev higher than most sports cars of its era. The 1999 to 2003 AP1 and the 2004 to 2009 AP2 share...
