The McLaren 650S / 650S Spider exhaust in detail.
Now one of the best performance-for-money deals in the supercar world, the 650S carries a twin-turbo V8 with 650 hp and 678 Nm that takes everything in its stride. Its restrained factory sound is just waiting to be unleashed, and the before-and-after contrast is among the most spectacular in our catalogue. Our page covers the 2014 to 2017 model years; the MP4-12C that preceded it and the 750S have their own systems.
Woking long favoured pure performance, and the criticism comes from the factory exhaust, not the engine. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back reveals a sharp, high-pitched sound at high revs, a technical rumble and bangs that crack on lift-off; with the valves closed, discretion returns for everyday use.
The 650S can also receive a catalysed downpipe under the “Manifold” option. On this twin-turbo V8, it becomes the real power lever once the map is adapted, up to the 760 hp and 798 Nm quoted at Stage 2; without an ECU remap, it changes the voice and takes off a little weight, and with 200 cells it keeps the factory emissions control.
Fitting is done without welding, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours; the factory exhaust can be kept. Factory valves retained with their control, or the Rog remote on a car that has none. Titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel for the same design, suits the spirit of the 650S and comes in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the McLaren 650S / 650S Spider V8 exhaust.
My 650S is a Spider: does this page apply to it?
Yes. The 650S coupé and the 650S Spider take the same Rog system: same chassis, same twin-turbo V8, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
What does a 650S gain with a downpipe and an ECU remap?
Around 110 hp and 120 Nm more than stock: 760 hp and 798 Nm at Stage 2 according to our data. Without a downpipe, the factory map is all the cat-back needs.
What should be checked on a modified 650S before the vehicle inspection?
With the valves closed, for a sound close to stock, and with the factory front section or the 200-cell downpipe, which keep emissions control. If it is fitted with a 100-cell downpipe, acceptance will depend on the vehicle and your country’s rules; a decat 650S is reserved for track use.
Is the contrast in sound really that marked on a 650S?
It is one of the most striking in our catalogue: restrained from the factory, the 650S takes on a sharp, high-pitched voice with the valves open. And at the press of a button, it becomes as discreet as on delivery day.
McLaren 650S / 650S Spider V8: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
