The McLaren MP4-12C / 12C Spider exhaust in detail.
The founder of the McLaren revival, the MP4-12C is today one of the most accessible supercars on the used market. Its twin-turbo V8 develops 625 hp and 600 Nm according to our data, and its factory sound, heavily criticised at the time, is completely transformed with a system worthy of its engineering. Our page covers 2011 to 2014; the 650S that succeeded it has its own system.
Sharp and piercing at high revs, this V8 was held back by a factory exhaust designed for discretion. With the valves open, the Rog cat-back finally gives it a soundtrack to match its performance: a technical growl, the breathing of the turbos, bangs on the overrun; with the valves closed, the 12C becomes discreet again.
The 12C can also receive the catalysed downpipe offered under the “Manifold” option, the part that follows the turbos. Remapped, it reaches 735 hp and 720 Nm at Stage 2 according to our data; without a map, the downpipe only changes the voice and a little of the mass, and its 200-cell version keeps treating emissions.
Under the 12C, the exhaust fits in about two hours with clamps and gaskets, no welding, and the factory system can be stored in the garage. Factory valves are retained with their control, otherwise the Rog remote. Titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel for the same design, comes in brushed, gold or purple, and each exhaust is manufactured to your VIN, checked before production.

Questions about the McLaren MP4-12C / 12C Spider V8 exhaust.
Can my 12C Spider take this system?
Yes. The MP4-12C coupé and the 12C Spider take the same Rog system: same chassis, same twin-turbo V8, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
A remapped MP4-12C with a downpipe: what figures?
According to our page, 735 hp and 720 Nm at Stage 2, which is 120 Nm more than stock. Without a downpipe, the cat-back fits without touching the map.
Which MP4-12C should be presented at vehicle inspection?
A 12C with its valves closed, in its original discretion, fitted with the factory front section or the 200-cell downpipe, which keeps the catalytic converter active. The 100-cell version is a matter of the car and the rules in your country, which accept it or not; in decat form, the 12C is reserved for track use.
Why was the 12C’s sound criticised?
Because its factory system favoured discretion, to the point of holding back a sharp, high-pitched V8. The engine is not to blame: freed by the Rog system, it finally finds a voice worthy of its performance.
McLaren MP4-12C / 12C Spider V8: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
