Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.

The Mercedes-AMG A45 W176 exhaust in detail.
When the A45 W176 arrived, no production two-litre engine produced as much power. Its M133, the first turbocharged four-cylinder developed entirely by AMG, drew 360 hp and 450 Nm from 1,991 cc, then 381 hp depending on the phase, over the 2014 to 2018 model years covered by this page. Forged parts, twin-scroll turbo, hand assembly: racing mechanicals, with the soundtrack of a sensible compact.
Oversized silencers erase almost all of the engine’s character. The Rog valved cat-back, or valve exhaust depending on the term you search for, replaces pipes, silencers and tips: open, a snarling tone, an aggressive climb and crackles on the overrun; closed, the W176 regains the discretion it has always been capable of. The A45 W177 that followed has its own page, as do the CLA45 C117 and GLA45 X156, its M133-engined cousins.
Your VIN, taken from field E of the registration document, is used to manufacture the exhaust. Fitting takes about two hours on a lift; clamps and gaskets are enough, the welding kit stays in the cupboard. If the car has kept factory valves, their control is retained; otherwise, a box housed in the boot and a two-button remote take over.
After the silencer, the second restriction on the M133 is the downpipe that leaves the turbo and carries the catalytic converter; on this page it is listed under the “Manifold” option. In 200-cell form, emissions control stays in place. The freer-flowing options, the 100-cell version, which inspection may or may not accept depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version, reserved for track use, are aimed at a different kind of A45. Without an ECU remap, this part adds no horsepower, just sound and a few kilos less. That leaves the choice of material for the cat-back: 304 stainless steel for year-round driving, or titanium to save around 40% in weight, supplied in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG A45 W176 2.0 turbo exhaust.
Is the 381 hp facelifted A45 W176 covered by this page?
Yes: the page covers the W176 from 2014 to 2018, in both 360 and 381 hp form. The A45 and A45 S W177 that followed have a separate page. The VIN taken from the registration document is our final check before manufacturing.
Is an ECU remap needed to fit the system on the A45 W176?
No, the original ECU accepts the cat-back as it is. An ECU remap becomes useful with the downpipe: for the 360 hp version, the page publishes 420 hp and 560 Nm at Stage 2. With a sports catalytic converter, the engine warning light may come on, which an ECU remap also sorts out.
Vehicle inspection: in which configuration should an A45 W176 be presented?
Valves closed, with the cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe, which let the catalytic converter do its work: the sound then stays close to factory. For the 100-cell, the answer depends on the vehicle and your country’s rules; decat does not leave the track.
Which material for an A45 W176 facing winter and road salt?
304 stainless steel copes easily with road salt and gives a full sound. Titanium does not rust either, removes around 40% of the weight for the same design and sounds clearer at high revs, with three colours to choose from.
How long does it take to fit out an A45 W176?
Manufacturing starts once the VIN has been checked: allow 20 working days until delivery, with free shipping and an insured parcel. Your usual mechanic then handles the fitting, about two hours.
Mercedes-AMG A45 W176 2.0 turbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Mercedes-AMG A45 W176 2.0 turbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Mercedes A45 AMG W176: giving the M133 its voice back, the complete exhaust system guide
When the A45 AMG arrived, no production 2-litre in the world did better: 360 hp from 1,991 cc, an engine hand-built in Affalterbach. Ten years on, the W176 remains a benchmark, but its factory exhaust has never told the story...
