The Mercedes-AMG GLS63 X167 exhaust in detail.
The GLS63 X167 carries the AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, hand-assembled in Affalterbach, with turbos housed in the vee: 612 hp and 850 Nm to move this very large SUV. This page covers the 2020 to 2026 model years; the GLS63 X166 with the 5.5-litre V8 that preceded it has its own page.
The particulate filter and oversized silencers have made this V8 polite, to the point that many owners see it as a breach of the AMG spirit. The Rog cat-back fixes that: valves open, deep rumble and bangs on the overrun; valves closed, your GLS becomes a high-riding limousine again, silent for every passenger.
Not a single weld: clamps and gaskets are enough, in about two hours, for a system built to your VIN. The AMG modes keep control of the factory valves; failing that, the Rog remote.
The “Manifold” option offers the downpipe that follows the turbos. The 200-cell version keeps emissions control and remains the one for road use. The 100-cell, which will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version, reserved for track use, sit badly with an SUV of this size designed for travel. With a full ECU remap, the page quotes 704 hp and 1,050 Nm at Stage 2. As for material, 304 stainless steel is enough for most GLS owners; titanium, around 40% lighter, is chosen for its looks and clearer note.

Questions about the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 X167 4.0 V8 biturbo exhaust.
Can a GLS63 X167 built in late 2019 take this exhaust?
Our catalogue covers the GLS63 X167 from 2020 to 2026, with the 2019 model year still to be confirmed. For a late-2019 model, send us the VIN: we check before manufacturing.
With a downpipe and an ECU remap, what power can the GLS63 X167 reach according to the page?
It rises to 704 hp and 1,050 Nm, from 612 hp and 850 Nm, with downpipe and full ECU remap by an approved tuner. The rear system on its own works with the factory electronic management.
How should a modified GLS63 X167 be taken to vehicle inspection?
Valves closed, with the factory front section or a 200-cell downpipe: the SUV stays hushed and its exhaust gases are treated. Fitted with a 100-cell downpipe, this large SUV will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, to be checked before the appointment. The decat version is reserved for track use and stays outside this process.
Does a modified GLS63 X167 stay quiet for rear passengers?
Yes, with the valves closed: the V8 becomes a distant murmur again and the long-distance comfort is preserved. You alone choose the moment the thunder returns.
Mercedes-AMG GLS63 X167 4.0 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
