    Mercedes-AMGGT C190 / R190

    The Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S C190 / R190 exhaust in detail.

Turbos housed between the cylinder banks, dry sump to lower the engine, front-mid-mounted block and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox moved to the rear: the M178 of the AMG GT C190 is designed like that of a pure sports car, and hand-built according to the “One Man, One Engine” principle. Depending on the version, this 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers 462 to 522 hp and 600 to 670 Nm.

Covered here are the GT and GT S produced from 2015 to 2021. The GT C is not yet documented in our records and is therefore not included; the GT R has its own exhaust. With the engine just ahead of the cabin and the exhaust running under your feet, sound is part of the drive: that deep, rolling thunder, punctuated by bangs, which the factory system holds back too much.

With the valves open, the Rog cat-back restores that signature in full; with the valves closed, the GT becomes a great touring coupé again. The system, built to your VIN, is fitted in about two hours; clamps and gaskets replace any welding. The AMG modes keep control of factory valves; failing that, the Rog remote.

The “Manifold” option refers to the catalysed downpipe that follows the turbos. With 200 cells, emissions control remains and the GT stays a road car. The 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country; the decat downpipe is reserved for track use and is not fitted to a GT registered for the road. Without an ECU remap, no extra horsepower; with one, the page publishes 630 hp and 850 Nm for versions up to 510 hp, and 672 hp and 893 Nm for the 522 hp version. On such a light rear-wheel-drive car, titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel, makes perfect sense.

    Questions about the Mercedes-AMG GT / GT S C190 / R190 4.0 V8 biturbo exhaust.

Is my GT C C190 covered by this page?

No: we document the GT and GT S C190, not the GT C, which is excluded from this page and from its front section. Send us the VIN if you are unsure of your version; the GT R has its own page.

Which Stage 2 for an AMG GT S C190?

Depending on the version, the page publishes 630 hp and 850 Nm (462, 476 and 510 hp as standard) or 672 hp and 893 Nm (522 hp), with a downpipe and a full ECU remap. The cat-back alone works without touching the ECU.

Mercedes-AMG GT / GT S C190 4.0 V8 biturbo with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?

The cat-back alone or the 200-cell downpipe, and valves closed on inspection day: the V8 stays close to its factory level and its exhaust gases treated. For a 100-cell, acceptance depends on the vehicle and your country’s rules. Decat, the GT belongs on the track: this version is reserved for track use.

Do the GT C190’s AMG modes still control the valves?

If the car has factory valves, the exhaust connects to their control and each mode keeps its behaviour. The Rog remote remains an option for deciding independently of the selected programme.

Does the AMG GT Roadster R190 take the same system as the coupé?

Yes. The C190 coupé and the R190 GT Roadster take the same Rog system, with the same 4.0 twin-turbo V8 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. The GT C, coupé or Roadster, is not covered by this page. Your VIN confirms the version before manufacturing.

    Mercedes-AMG GT / GT S C190 / R190 4.0 V8 biturbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
