Which valved exhaust for a Mercedes-AMG SL 55 R232?
The Rog system for the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 4MATIC+ R232 (from 2022) is a valved cat-back exhaust in 304 stainless steel or titanium, built to your VIN for the 476 hp, 700 Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Roof folded, nothing separates your ears from the exhaust: valves open, a deep, rolling thunder; closed, the discretion of a grand tourer.
Sound, options and fitting in detail: our Mercedes-AMG SL 55 R232 guide.
The SL 55 AMG R232 roadster, launched in 2022, gets Affalterbach’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, with turbos in the vee and hand assembly: 476 hp and 700 Nm. It shares its architecture with the AMG GT C192 coupé, and it is very much an SL cut out for the pleasure of driving with the roof open. The more powerful SL 63 version has a separate page.
With the roof folded, nothing separates your ears from the exhaust; yet a particulate filter and oversized silencers have made this V8 polite. The valved Rog cat-back gives it back a deep, rolling thunder, punctuated by bangs on lift-off; closed again, it leaves the roadster with the discretion of a grand tourer for long stages.
The system is built to your VIN, which also lets us confirm the exact compatibility of a recent model, then fits in about two hours with clamps and gaskets, without welding. Factory valve control retained if it exists; otherwise, the Rog remote.
On the SL 55, the “Manifold” option refers to the catalysed downpipe that follows the V8’s turbos, a part specific to this platform according to specialist manufacturers. With 200 cells, emissions control stays in place, the version to choose for a leisure roadster. More open, a 100-cell downpipe will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, while the decat variant, reserved for track use, does not suit this roadster. With the right map, the SL 55 climbs to 631 hp and 900 Nm according to the page. Titanium or 304 stainless steel: the former, around 40% lighter, adds a brighter sound, clearly audible with the roof folded.

Questions about the Mercedes SL 55 AMG R232 exhaust.
Can I fit the system designed for the SL 55 to an SL 63 R232?
Each version has its own page: this one is for the 476 hp SL 55 AMG R232, while the 585 hp SL 63 has its own. If you are unsure about your SL’s version, send us the VIN before ordering.
What power difference after an ECU remap for an SL 55 R232?
The page publishes 631 hp and 900 Nm at Stage 2, from 476 hp and 700 Nm, with downpipe and full map. The cat-back, for its part, needs no electronic changes at all.
Vehicle inspection: does a modified SL 55 R232 need preparing?
Very little: with the valves closed and the original front section or 200 cells, the roadster keeps a stock volume and treated exhaust gases. With 100 cells, this SL 55 will be accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, a point to check beforehand. The downpipe without a catalytic converter, reserved for track use, is not fitted for an inspection.
Roof folded, does a modified SL 55 R232 stay pleasant on the motorway?
Yes: with the valves closed, the V8 steps back and cruising stays comfortable. You open them again as a winding road approaches, to enjoy the rumble with the roof down.
Mercedes SL 55 AMG R232: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
