The Subaru WRX VA 2.0 Turbo exhaust in detail.
The 2015 to 2020 WRX VA receives a 2.0-litre flat-four with direct injection and a twin-scroll turbo: 272 hp and 350 Nm, torque available across a wide band, and all-wheel drive that gives remarkable traction, in the dry as in the wet. Mounted low and flat, the engine also lowers the centre of gravity.
A boxer engine does not have the voice of an inline four-cylinder: it is more muffled, rounder, with a characteristic deep grain, which the turbo and then the factory exhaust smooth out to the point of making the WRX almost anonymous. With the valves open, the valved Rog cat-back brings out that grain, a round bass note at idle and the turbo whoosh between gears; with the valves closed, the compact saloon becomes discreet again for everyday journeys.
One detail really matters: the parts on this page are for the WRX VA with the six-speed manual gearbox, not the CVT version, and it is your WRX’s VIN, checked before manufacturing, that confirms it. Fitting, with no welding, using clamps and gaskets, takes about two hours, with either the factory valve control or the Rog remote.
The VA’s catalytic converter sits in the turbo downpipe, a part the page replaces under the “Manifold” option. On a non-remapped VA, this part changes the voice and saves a little weight; combined with a map, it frees up power, to an extent only the tune determines, as no reliable Stage 2 figure is published. On a WRX that faces winter and daily commutes, only the 200-cell version keeps emissions control, the 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat remains reserved for track use. The four round tailpipes come in 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter.

Questions about the Subaru WRX VA 2.0 Turbo exhaust.
My WRX VA has a CVT gearbox: is the 2.0 Turbo system compatible?
No, the parts on this page target the WRX VA with the six-speed manual gearbox, from 2015 to 2020. For a CVT version, do not order without checking: your VIN lets us verify before manufacturing.
Should I plan a map after fitting on the WRX VA 2.0?
The factory ECU accepts the cat-back as it is; it is only with the downpipe that an approved tuner can convert the extra flow into horsepower, with no reliable Stage 2 figure to quote for the VA.
Which downpipe should I keep under a WRX VA 2.0 for vehicle inspection?
The factory part or the 200-cell, which keep the catalytic converter working, with the valves closed for a voice close to stock. A 100-cell will be accepted or not depending on the car and your country, and the decat remains reserved for the track.
Can a modified WRX VA 2.0 Turbo still serve as a weekday work car?
Yes: with the valves closed, the compact saloon keeps its discretion, in town as over long distances. The boxer’s grain only returns when you open them, at the press of a button.
Subaru WRX VA 2.0 Turbo: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Subaru WRX VA 2.0 Turbo: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

Subaru WRX VA Turbo 6-speed manual: a boxer at heart, the exhaust system guide
The WRX VA carries on a recipe Subaru enthusiasts know well: symmetrical all-wheel drive, a six-speed manual gearbox and a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four. This engine pulls hard, but its factory exhaust smothers the very distinctive character of the boxer. This...
