The SQ5's 3.0 TFSI V6: supercharged on the 8R, turbocharged on the FY
The petrol SQ5 8R gets a 3.0 TFSI V6 fed by a supercharger housed in the V, between the two cylinder banks. It produces 354 hp and 470 Nm, with the instant response typical of mechanical supercharging, at the slightest touch of the throttle. The SQ5 FY keeps the same displacement and power, 354 hp, but switches to a turbo and gains torque: 500 Nm, available very early to carry the SUV along effortlessly.
Two forms of forced induction, but the same V6 architecture and the same purpose: the ROG exhaust was designed for both SQ5s. It changes nothing in their mechanics or their electronic management. It changes what you hear: the V6 stops being a distant rumour and regains a presence in keeping with its performance, adjustable with the valves depending on the road and your passengers.

The cat-back is the complete exhaust system
It is everything you can see under your Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6, from the outlet of the front section to the tips: pipes, silencer, valves. This is the part where most of our research and development goes: it is what shapes the sound, and it is enough on its own to transform the car.
The front section, where the catalytic converter sits
On your Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6, it is the downpipe, the pipe leading from the engine. It contains the factory catalytic converter: the second restriction in the exhaust, after the silencer. Replacing it is optional: it frees up the flow, and it is the ECU remap that turns that into horsepower.

At Stage 2, the SQ5 8R V6 is rated at 420 hp and the SQ5 FY V6 at 440 hp, with the headroom coming from boost management. The result remains specific to each car and to the chosen tuner. The ROG exhaust, for its part, leaves the ECU untouched and takes care of the voice.

Valves open. With the valves closed, every configuration becomes discreet again.
What about the engine warning light? With a sports catalytic converter it can come on, because the rear oxygen sensor reads less cleaning. Nothing mechanical is wrong: an ECU remap or a session with a diagnostic tool sorts it out. Without a catalytic converter, you will need an ECU remap. The ROG sound signature on the SQ5's V6
A supercharged V6 and a turbocharged V6 do not quite speak the same language. On the SQ5 8R, the engine's bass note comes with a mechanical whine under acceleration; on the SQ5 FY, the voice is rounder, carried by the whoosh of forced induction. The factory exhaust reduces both to a polite background noise.
With the ROG exhaust and the valves open, the V6 growls at start-up and every burst of acceleration is clearly heard, right down to downshifts that take on real depth. With the valves closed, the SQ5 becomes once again the family SUV you know, calm in town and restful on long journeys.

Do you need to replace the catalytic converter on the Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6?
It is not compulsory. The cat-back alone is enough to change the character of the Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6. Replacing the downpipe is how you go further, together with an ECU remap: 200 cells for the road, 100 cells or decat for more radical use.
Can the Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6 pass the French MOT with a ROG exhaust?
The cat-back only and the 200-cell converter both retain emissions control: present the Audi SQ5 8R V6 or SQ5 FY V6 with the valves closed. With the 100-cell converter, a pass is no longer guaranteed; the decat fails the emissions test.
