Valved Exhaust System for Aston Martin DB9 / DB9 Volante V12 6.0 (2004-2016)
Configuration
Aston Martin DB9 / DB9 Volante V12 6.0 Valved Exhaust System (2004-2016)
Valves
Operated by remote control, factory-paired.
Estimated at 0.50 m from the outlet, 45°, 2,000 rpm with a warm engine. Allow ± 2 dB depending on the engine and measuring point. A 3 dB difference is audible in a direct comparison; 10 dB sounds roughly twice as loud.
Configuration guide
Sound intensity with the valves open, on a scale of 0 to 10.
| Configuration | Intensity |
|---|---|
| Decat manifolds + Rog cat-back | 10/10 |
| 100-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 9/10 |
| 200-cell sports catalytic converter + Rog cat-back | 8/10 |

The Aston Martin DB9 / DB9 Volante V12 exhaust in detail.
Few engines have a voice as recognisable as the DB9’s naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12: silky when cruising, then howling and crystalline as it nears the red line. This 517 hp, 620 Nm twelve-cylinder will no longer be built, and its standard system, calibrated for grand tourer discretion, keeps the high harmonics to itself.
The Rog system is designed for the DB9 V12’s entire production run, from 2004 to 2016, and built to your VIN. With no turbo to dampen the pulses, the exhaust provides all the character here: with the valves open, the valved cat-back turns every climb through the revs into a crescendo; with the valves closed, the hushed refinement returns, close to stock. The DB11, DB12 and DBS Superleggera have their own pages.
Band clamps, gaskets, no welding: allow about two hours on a lift. The valves follow the factory control if your DB9 has one; failing that, the Rog remote opens and closes them, with its box housed in the boot.
Here, the manifolds really are manifolds: they collect the gases from each bank of six cylinders, and they house the original catalytic converter. Their design matters, so with an ECU remap the V12 gains for real, but modestly, around 3 to 8%, whereas without one it is mainly its voice that changes. For a DB9, emissions control is preserved with 200 cells, acceptance of the 100-cell depends on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use, rare territory for this grand tourer. Finally, 304 stainless steel or titanium, around 40% lighter and finished in brushed, gold or purple, dresses the DB9’s four round tips.

Questions about the Aston Martin DB9 / DB9 Volante V12 6.0 exhaust.
Does the system cover every DB9 V12, from 2004 to 2016?
Yes, the page covers the DB9 V12 6.0 across its entire production, from 2004 to 2016. As the model years evolved over time, we check your VIN before building.
Does the DB9’s V12 6.0 need an ECU remap after fitting?
No. The cat-back requires no work on the V12’s ECU. An ECU remap becomes worthwhile if you replace the manifolds: on this naturally aspirated engine, expect a gain of around 3 to 8%, nothing like a turbo engine.
Vehicle inspection: which configuration should be kept on a DB9 V12?
Closed valves and active catalytic converters: original or 200-cell manifolds. The V12 then becomes as reserved as on delivery day. The 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and your country; decat manifolds are reserved for the track.
Why do the manifolds matter so much on the DB9’s naturally aspirated V12?
On a naturally aspirated engine, the design of the manifolds affects cylinder filling, more so than on a turbocharged engine. If you are mainly after the voice, the cat-back is enough; if you are tuning the engine, manifolds and an ECU remap go together.
Does the DB9 Volante take the same system as the coupé?
Yes. The coupé and the Volante take the same Rog system: same chassis, same engine, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
Aston Martin DB9 / DB9 Volante V12 6.0: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
