The Audi RS4 and RS5 B8.5 exhaust in detail.
The 4.2 FSI in the RS4 Avant and RS5 Coupé B8.5 belongs to an endangered species: the high-revving naturally aspirated V8, which goes beyond 8,000 rpm with a response modern turbos cannot reproduce. It produces 450 hp and 430 Nm. This page covers 2012 to 2015; the twin-turbo V6 RS4 and RS5 B9, like the RS5 8T, have their own page.
Its voice builds with the revs, hoarse in the mid-range and then howling beyond 7,000 rpm. The heavy, filtered factory exhaust holds back precisely the middle part. With the valves open, our valved cat-back reduces back pressure and makes the crescendo continuous, from idle to the red line. With the valves closed, the RS stays usable every day without fatigue.
Here, the “Manifold” option lives up to its name: on this naturally aspirated V8, it is the manifolds, with their catalytic converters, that collect the gases at the cylinder outlets. Anyone keeping their RS4 for the road will take these manifolds with 200 cells, the only ones that keep the eight-cylinder’s emissions control; the 100-cell ones are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, while the decat version is reserved for track use. The gain is real but modest, around 3 to 8% with an ECU remap.
The assembly ends in oval tailpipes and fits with clamps and gaskets, no welding, in about two hours on a lift. The valves follow the drive modes if your Audi has them from the factory, otherwise the Rog remote. In titanium, the system weighs around 40% less than in 304 stainless steel and takes on a more metallic tone; brushed, gold or purple finishes.

Questions about the Audi RS4 Avant / RS5 Coupé / Cabriolet B8.5 4.2 V8 exhaust.
And what if my RS5 B8.5 is a convertible?
It is covered: the RS5 Cabriolet, sold from 2013 to 2015, takes the same Rog system as the RS5 Coupé, with the same 4.2 V8 and the same clamp-and-gasket fitting. For a 2011 car, outside the years covered by this page, send the VIN before ordering: we check before manufacturing.
Are the RS4 B8.5 manifolds worth the expense?
On this naturally aspirated V8, the gain exists but remains modest, 3 to 8% with an ECU remap. The published Stage 2 figures are 499 hp and 473 Nm. If you are after the sound first, the cat-back alone already transforms the car.
Which RS5 B8.5 should be presented at vehicle inspection after fitting?
The V8, shut in behind its valves, returns to a level close to factory, and emissions control remains with the cat-back only or the 200-cell manifolds. In 100-cell form, the manifolds pass or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules; decat, they confine the RS5 to the track.
Does the RS4 Avant B8.5 keep its original engine management with the cat-back?
Yes: the cat-back requires no ECU remap and the V8 keeps its 450 hp. A remap only makes sense to turn the manifolds into power.
Audi RS4 Avant / RS5 Coupé / Cabriolet B8.5 4.2 V8: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
Audi RS4 Avant / RS5 Coupé / Cabriolet B8.5 4.2 V8: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
