The BMW 1M E82 N54 exhaust in detail.
Produced for just two years, 2011 and 2012, the 1M is a widened 1 Series coupé that borrows part of its running gear and brakes from the M3. Its 3.0-litre N54, with direct injection and two small turbos, is rated at 340 hp and 450 Nm, with an overboost that temporarily adds torque under hard acceleration. The car’s whole personality lies in this engine; the 135i E82, the N54,335i and the Z4 E89 3.0T have their own pages.
Each turbine already softens the tone, then a heavily baffled factory exhaust erases the gravelly grain of the engine: on such an engaging car, this gap between your right foot and your ears spoils part of the pleasure. Our valved cat-back reverses the trend, with a metallic note that swells with every gear and very present lift-offs when the valves open, then a calmer 1M, valves closed, to cover a long journey without fatigue.
In the workshop, nothing to weld: the system arrives built to your VIN, is fixed with clamps and gaskets and takes about two hours on a lift. Coupés already fitted with factory valves keep their control; for the others, a Rog remote and its box housed in the boot do the job.
Offered under the “Manifold” option, the front part here is the catalysed downpipe that follows the turbos, and it is the ECU remap that turns it into horsepower; fitted alone, it changes the voice and saves a little weight. On such a rare car, most owners choose the 200-cell, which keeps emissions control; with the 100-cell, the 1M is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use. The choice is yours: full-sounding 304 stainless steel or titanium around 40% lighter for the same design, available in three finishes.

Questions about the BMW 1M E82 N54 3.0T exhaust.
Is the 1M system the same as a 135i system?
No, even though the engine belongs to the same family: this system is designed for the 2011 to 2012 1M N54, wider than the 135i E82 and the 335i N54, which each have their own page, and your VIN confirms compatibility before manufacturing.
How far can an ECU remap take the 1M?
With the downpipe and a map carried out by an approved tuner, the Stage 2 figures published for the 1M reach 399 hp and 599 Nm; the cat-back alone works perfectly with the factory engine management.
BMW 1M N54 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
Present it with the valves closed, a voice close to how it left the factory: cat-back only or 200-cell downpipe, gas treatment stays in place, the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Stainless steel or titanium for a 1M that does track days?
304 stainless steel shrugs off winter and offers a round sound, while titanium removes around 40% of the mass for the same design and takes on a clearer note at high revs, a strong argument for a 1M that sees track time.
Should I keep the factory valve control on the 1M?
If your coupé has it, the exhaust takes it over and your habits do not change; otherwise, the Rog remote opens and closes in a single gesture, from the driver’s seat as well as outside the car.
BMW 1M E82 N54 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 1M E82 N54 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
