The BMW Z4 E89 3.0T exhaust in detail.
In the 2009 to 2016 Z4 E89 sDrive35i and sDrive35is, the roadster receives the N54: a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six, 306 hp and 400 Nm, then 340 hp and 450 Nm in the 35is, with massive torque from low revs. According to the guide, the naturally aspirated Z4 E89 2.5L and 3.0L share the same system, each keeping its own page; the Z4 G29 M40i has its own.
The N54 is deeper and hoarser than the naturally aspirated N52, with the whoosh of its two turbos, but the Z4’s factory exhaust flattens this personality, even with the roof open. Open the valves on the Rog cat-back: a thick rumble, crackles and a climb through the revs you can finally hear on country roads. Close them: the roadster regains a calmer sound for long motorway journeys and early-morning departures.
Fitting is done without welding, with clamps and gaskets, in about two hours; the system arrives bent to your VIN, and the valves respond to the factory control or to the Rog remote.
This page sells a cat-back only, with no front section option: the turbos and their factory pipework stay in place, as do the engine and ECU, and the system works on the voice and the weight at the rear. For a roadster you keep for a long time, 304 stainless steel ages well and sounds full; titanium, around 40% lighter for the same design, makes the inline-six clearer at high revs and can be ordered in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW Z4 E89 3.0T exhaust.
sDrive35i or sDrive35is: the same exhaust for the twin-turbo Z4 E89?
Both, 306 and 340 hp, since the page covers the N54 in both its tunes from 2009 to 2016; the VIN simply serves to pin down your version.
Can a Z4 35is’s N54 be remapped?
Yes, the N54 lends itself well to tuning: for the 35is, the page publishes Stage 2 figures of 380 hp and 540 Nm. The cat-back, sold on its own here, works with the factory map.
BMW Z4 sDrive35i / 35is E89 N54 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
Presented with the valves closed, it returns to a voice close to standard; this cat-back only replaces the rear part of the exhaust, with the rest of the factory system and the engine left unmodified.
Twin-turbo Z4 E89 and naturally aspirated Z4 E89: a single exhaust?
The guide says so, as the inline-six fits in the same body; each version keeps its own page, and your VIN decides before manufacturing.
With the roof down, can you hear the Z4’s N54 better?
Yes, with nothing overhead, the twin-turbo’s rumble reaches you directly with the valves open; with them closed, the roadster stays restful.
BMW Z4 E89 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW Z4 E89 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.

BMW Z4 E89: the straight-six roadster, naturally aspirated or biturbo, the exhaust system guide
The Z4 E89, a roadster with a retractable hard top, received two families of straight-six: the naturally aspirated N52, 204 hp in 2.5 form, and the 3.0-litre biturbo N54, with up to 340 hp. Two very different voices, which the...
