    BMWZ4 G29

The BMW Z4 G29 2.0T exhaust in detail.

    The Z4 sDrive20i and sDrive30i share the M40i’s sharp chassis with the B48, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder: 197 hp and 320 Nm for the 20i, 258 hp and 400 Nm for the 30i. A light, agile roadster, covered here from 2019 to 2022. The six-cylinder Z4 M40i G29 has its own page, as does the previous-generation Z4 E89 2.0T.

With the roof open, you hear the wind more than the engine: BMW tuned the B48 for efficiency and silence, and its factory voice is almost non-existent. Yet this is the type of car an exhaust transforms the most. With the valves open, our cat-back gives the four-cylinder a full, sporty tone, with crisp crackles on lift-off, without chasing volume at all costs; with the valves closed, the roadster becomes completely discreet again.

The system, bent to your VIN, connects without welding using clamps and gaskets in about two hours; the valves stay controlled by the factory driving modes or by the Rog remote.

The “Manifold” option sells the B48’s downpipe; on its own, it only changes the sound and slightly the weight, and it is a map that turns it into power. On a recent roadster, the 200-cell downpipe is the most widespread, since it maintains emissions control; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. Titanium, around 40% lighter, suits such a light roadster well.

Questions about the BMW Z4 G29 2.0T exhaust.

Can a 2023 or newer Z4 G29 take this exhaust?

Our page lists 2019 to 2022 and does not document 2018 or 2023 to 2026; send us your roadster’s VIN and we check compatibility before building.

sDrive20i or sDrive30i: what does an ECU remap give?

The page publishes Stage 2 figures of 310 hp and 460 Nm for the 20i, and 340 hp and 510 Nm for the 30i, with downpipe and a map by an approved tuner; the cat-back on its own works without them.

Should the roof be raised and the valves closed on the Z4 G29 before the vehicle inspection?

That is the best way to present it: roof up, valves closed, the B48 sounds as it did on delivery, and the original catalytic converter or the one in the 200-cell downpipe stays active; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.

Roof open, does the modified Z4 finally drown out the wind noise?

With the valves open, yes: the B48 takes on a full voice that accompanies your driving; with the valves closed, the roadster stays as discreet as stock.

Will the Z4 G29’s Sport button still control the valves?

If your roadster has factory valves, yes, the drive modes stay in control; otherwise, a box hidden behind the seats and the Rog remote take over.

BMW Z4 G29 2.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?

No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.

BMW Z4 G29 2.0T: straight pipe or resonator?

On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
