The BMW 230i G42 exhaust in detail.
The 230i G42 embodies the new generation of 2 Series coupé: compact size, a lively chassis and a 2.0-litre turbo B48 delivering 245 hp and 400 Nm, with torque available very early. This page covers the 220i and 230i G42 with the B48 engine built since 2022, which take the same system; the six-cylinder M240i G42 has its own page.
The B48 has a more muscular voice than its displacement suggests: a muffled note at idle, a drier grain under acceleration, a slight turbo whistle in the background. The factory exhaust smooths all this into a neutral breath. Once the valves are open, our valved cat-back gives the four-cylinder a full sound that accompanies every climb through the revs; closed, they leave the 230i hushed, in town and on the motorway alike.
On this recent coupé, installation remains simple: not a single weld, clamps and gaskets, about two hours, and a 230i delivered with factory valves keeps obeying its drive modes, while the others receive the Rog remote and its box in the boot.
For the front section, the “Manifold” option on this turbocharged engine refers to the catalysed downpipe; with the standard map, it adds voice and takes off a little weight, without extra power. A 200-cell sports catalytic converter maintains the B48’s emissions control, a 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use. For a new or nearly new 230i, 304 stainless steel is the natural choice, titanium around 40% lighter the distinctive touch, in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW 230i B48 G42 2.0L exhaust.
Can an older 230i G42, from 2022 for example, be equipped?
Yes. The 220i and 230i G42 with the B48 engine built since 2022 take the same Rog system. Your VIN is only used to confirm the model year before manufacturing.
What does an ECU remap bring on the 230i G42?
The coupé goes from 245 hp and 400 Nm to 340 hp and 510 Nm according to the published Stage 2 figures, provided you add the downpipe and entrust the map to an approved tuning centre; for the cat-back alone, no electronic work is required.
Vehicle inspection: which 230i configuration should be presented?
The simplest: cat-back only or 200-cell downpipe, valves closed, for a coupé that keeps its emissions control and a sound close to stock; in 100-cell form, the coupé is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
At 130 km/h, will the 230i resonate?
No: with the valves closed, the gases run through the silencer designed for cruising and the coupé stays composed on the motorway; you only open the valves when you feel like it.
Which material suits the 230i best?
304 stainless steel remains the safe choice, robust and round in tone; titanium lightens the system by around 40% for the same design and brightens the note, with three possible finishes.
BMW 230i B48 G42 2.0L: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 230i B48 G42 2.0L: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
