The BMW 335i F30 / F31 exhaust in detail.
The 335i F30 saloon and its N55 form one of the most popular tuning bases of the decade: the 3.0-litre single-turbo inline-six takes it all, and the chassis keeps up. This page covers the 2012 to 2015 model years, with 306 hp and 400 Nm stock. For a 340i, which succeeded it with the B58, or a 335i GT F34, refer to their pages.
What holds the 335i back most is its factory exhaust: sized for discretion, it erases the N55’s deep tone, its metallic harmonics and its crackles. The F30 community actually recommends the exhaust first. With our valved cat-back, the saloon regains an assertive presence from idle and a hoarse climb with the valves open, then a discretion perfectly compatible with everyday life with the valves closed.
Built to your VIN, the system installs with band clamps and gaskets in about two hours, without cutting or welding anything under the body. Two control options are possible: the factory system, if your 335i has factory valves, or the Rog remote, whose box sits in the boot.
The “Manifold” option corresponds to the N55’s downpipe and its catalytic converter, the main restriction on a turbo engine after the silencer; as long as the map stays stock, it changes the voice and the weight, not the power. Many 335i F30 owners start with the 200-cell downpipe, which keeps emissions control, before considering Stage 2; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. 304 stainless steel extends the single-turbo’s deep grain, while titanium brightens it and makes it around 40% lighter.

Questions about the BMW 335i F30 / F31 3.0T exhaust.
Can my 335i Touring F31 take the saloon’s system?
Yes. The F30 saloon and the F31 Touring take the same Rog system: same chassis, same N55, same clamp-and-gasket fitting. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version and model year before manufacturing.
How far can a 335i F30 go at Stage 2?
The figures published on the page reach 368 hp and 557 Nm, with a downpipe and an ECU remap at an approved tuner; the cat-back alone needs no electronic work and keeps the stock 306 hp.
BMW 335i F30 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Why start tuning a 335i with the exhaust?
Because it is the modification that most changes the saloon’s character without touching the engine: the cat-back transforms the N55’s voice, and the downpipe paves the way if you are considering Stage 2 later.
For a 335i F30 driven all year round, stainless steel or titanium?
304 stainless steel emphasises the single-turbo’s deep tone and copes well with winters; titanium is around 40% lighter for the same design and brightens the note at high revs, with three possible finishes.
BMW 335i F30 / F31 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 335i F30 / F31 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
