The BMW 840i G14 / G15 / G16 Gran Coupé exhaust in detail.
The 840i G16 offers the 8 Series Gran Coupé experience, four doors, grand touring style and presence, with the B58: a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, 340 hp then 333 hp after the facelift, 500 Nm. Our page covers the G16 Gran Coupé, the G15 coupé and the G14 convertible sold from 2019 to 2026; the M850i V8 is covered elsewhere.
BMW tuned the 840i for complete silence when cruising, which makes sense on the motorway but frustrates everywhere else: a particulate filter and oversized silencers reduce the B58’s round, metallic voice to almost nothing. With the valves open, our cat-back lets through a rounded bass note at idle, a smooth climb and crisp crackles; closed, the 840i keeps all its GT refinement.
No cutting beneath this long Gran Coupé: the system, bent to your VIN, is fixed with clamps and gaskets in about two hours, and the valves stay under the control of the factory drive modes when the car has them, or of the Rog remote otherwise.
The page also offers, under the “Manifold” option, the B58 downpipe and its catalytic converter; without an ECU remap, its effect is limited to the voice and a slight weight saving. The 200-cell sport catalytic converter keeps the GT’s emissions control, a detail that matters for a car covering several thousand kilometres a year; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. 304 stainless steel suits the GT’s hushed character, titanium, around 40% lighter, a bolder look.

Questions about the BMW 840i B58 G14 / G15 / G16 3.0T exhaust.
Do the 840i G15 coupé or the G14 convertible take this system?
Yes. The G14 convertible, the G15 coupé and the G16 Gran Coupé take the Rog system on this page, as on our M850i page. As the Gran Coupé is 201 mm longer, the system is built to your VIN, pipes included, then fitted with clamps and gaskets. For a 2018 car, the VIN also lets us check the model year.
A remapped 840i Gran Coupé: how much horsepower?
The page publishes Stage 2 figures of 440 hp and 620 Nm, before and after the facelift, with downpipe and a map by an approved tuner; the cat-back on its own does without.
BMW 840i B58 G16 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Does a six-cylinder 8 Series deserve a sports exhaust?
Yes, because the B58 has a real voice that the factory system muffles; the 840i keeps its refinement with the valves closed and gains character with them open.
Is the 840i’s cruising silence preserved?
Completely, with the valves closed: the gases flow through the silencer and the GT stays hushed on the motorway; you only open them when the road lends itself to it.
BMW 840i B58 G14 / G15 / G16 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW 840i B58 G14 / G15 / G16 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
