The BMW X3 N20 F25 2.0T exhaust in detail.
In 2.0-litre petrol form, the 2012 to 2017 X3, F25 generation according to our data, relies on the N20: a turbocharged four-cylinder with twin-scroll turbo, direct injection and Valvetronic. The xDrive20i draws 184 hp and 270 Nm from it, the xDrive28i 245 hp and 350 Nm, torque available very early that pulls the SUV with ease, loaded or not, and makes overtaking relaxed. The six-cylinder N55 X3 and the more recent X3 G01 have separate pages.
On an SUV of this size, the factory exhaust multiplies silencer volumes to preserve calm on board, even if it makes the N20 anonymous: a distant purr, unrelated to its responsiveness. Freed, however, this engine has a dry sound at idle that fills out as soon as the turbo builds boost. With the valves open, our cat-back gives the X3 a fuller voice that underlines every burst of acceleration; closed, they give it back the discretion expected of a family car.
The garage has nothing to weld: the system, made to your SUV’s VIN, connects with clamps and gaskets in about two hours, then is controlled by the factory control if the X3 has factory valves, or by the Rog remote if not.
Sold under the “Manifold” option, the N20’s downpipe carries the catalytic converter at the turbo outlet; as long as the map remains BMW’s, it is limited to voice and a few kilos. Because an X3 is happy to tow the caravan in summer, many keep the 200-cell version and its complete emissions control; the 100-cell one is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. As for material, 304 stainless steel faces salted roads, titanium saves around 40% and comes in brushed, gold or purple.

Questions about the BMW X3 N20 F25 2.0T exhaust.
Does this apply to my 2011 X3 xDrive20i?
Our page describes the 2.0-litre X3 from 2012 to 2017 without distinguishing between versions; for a 2011 example, give us the VIN and we compare the part numbers before starting anything.
xDrive20i or xDrive28i: what potential after an ECU remap?
The Stage 2 figures published on the page are 280 hp and 450 Nm for the xDrive20i and 320 hp and 480 Nm for the xDrive28i, with a downpipe and a map from an approved tuner; without them, the cat-back lives very happily with the stock engine management.
The modified family X3 has to go through its vehicle inspection: how should you go about it?
Keep the factory catalytic converter or the 200-cell downpipe, and cut the sound by closing the valves before the inspection: the SUV sounds as good as new; with the 100-cell, it is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Does an SUV four-cylinder deserve a sports exhaust?
Yes, because the N20 is far more expressive than it seems: the X3 gains character on the road, then returns to its family car calm at the press of a button on the remote.
Towing a trailer or loaded for the holidays, will the X3 drone?
No: with the valves closed, the gases run through the cruising silencer and the cabin stays composed, even when towing on the motorway.
BMW X3 N20 F25 2.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
