The BMW X3 M F97 exhaust in detail.
The first compact SUV from BMW M, the X3 M F97 receives the S58, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six developed by the M division: 480 hp and 600 Nm in base form, 510 hp in Competition form, then 650 Nm after the 2021 facelift. X3 M models from 2019 to 2024 are documented in our records, and the X4 M F98 shares the same system according to the guide, but has its own page.
The S58 revs with rare eagerness for a forced-induction engine, and the factory exhaust channels it instead of letting it speak. This page lets you choose its voice: Standard for the twin-turbo’s raw grain; Equal Length, whose two pipes of the same length synchronise the pulses for a higher, smoother note; Equal Length + Z-pipe for an exotic register, close to a high-revving naturally aspirated Japanese engine.
With the valves closed, the X3 M keeps the restraint of a family SUV; open, the M inline-six expresses itself fully. No welding for fitting, about two hours with clamps and gaskets, and an exhaust manufactured to your VIN; factory control or Rog remote for the valves.
The “Manifold” option on the page sells the S58’s downpipes with their catalytic converter; on their own, they change the voice and the mass, and it is an ECU remap that turns them into power. For an M SUV that also takes the children to school, the 200-cell downpipes preserve emissions control; the 100-cell ones are accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. As for material, titanium pairs well with Equal Length, and 304 stainless steel with Standard.

Questions about the BMW X3 M F97 3.0T exhaust.
Do the X3 M F97 and the X4 M F98 have the same system?
The guide groups them, since only the roof differs between the two SUVs; we keep one page per model and check your VIN before starting manufacturing.
What is published for an X3 M at Stage 2?
700 hp in every case, with 900 Nm for the 480 hp version and the facelifted Competition, 850 Nm for the launch Competition; downpipes and a remap at an approved tuner are required, the cat-back alone does not affect it.
BMW X3 M F97 3.0T with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Standard, Equal Length or Z-pipe on the X3 M’s S58?
Standard for the rough grain of the twin-turbo; Equal Length for a higher-pitched, smoother note, the choice that changes the SUV’s personality the most; Z-pipe for the highest register, reserved for lovers of extremes.
Are the last X3 M F97s, released in 2024, compatible?
They are included on our page, which covers the X3 M F97 from 2019 to 2024; a VIN is all we need to compare the parts and give you an answer with no obligation.
BMW X3 M F97 3.0T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW X3 M F97 3.0T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
