The BMW X5 50i E70 N63 exhaust in detail.
In the X5 family, the 2010 to 2013 50i plays the big-engine card: the N63, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with direct injection, its two turbos nestled between the cylinder banks. It delivers 407 hp and 600 Nm, massive torque from low revs that moves this large SUV with surprising ease. The X5 35i N55 and the X5 M each have their own page.
The N63 has the deep voice of a cross-plane crank V8, with a characteristic rumble at idle and a growl that thickens under acceleration; in the factory X5, this register is reduced to hushed background noise, and the SUV seems powered by a far more modest engine. With the valves open, our cat-back gives the V8 back a vocal start-up and a full rumble with every acceleration; with the valves closed, the hushed atmosphere of the big family tourer remains intact.
A point specific to this model: BMW fitted two types of rear connection between 2009 and 2013, a bolted flange or a clamped slip joint. Your X5’s VIN, requested with the order, lets us check yours; fitting is then done without welding, in about two hours, with factory valve control or the Rog remote.
The “Manifold” option sells the front section that follows the N63’s turbos; fitted with factory engine management, it is limited to voice and weight. The first turbocharged V8 X5 keeps its emissions control with a 200-cell catalysed front section; at 100 cells, it is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. This valved cat-back comes in 304 stainless steel and in titanium, around 40% lighter.

Questions about the BMW X5 50i E70 N63 4.4T exhaust.
Bolted flange or clamp: why does the connection question arise on the X5 50i?
Because BMW used both mountings between 2009 and 2013; we check which one your X5 has using the VIN before manufacturing the front part, so that it connects without adaptation.
Can an X5 xDrive50i with the N63 engine gain power?
The page publishes 494 hp and 746 Nm, with front section and an ECU remap by an approved tuner, on a healthy, well-maintained engine; the cat-back on its own works with the standard map.
On inspection day, in what state should a modified X5 50i be brought in?
Valves closed for a V8 as hushed as from the factory, and catalytic converter retained, factory or 200-cell; with 100 cells, the SUV is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Does the E70 code appear on the X5 50i page?
Yes: the 2010 to 2013 X5 50i N63 is an X5 E70, the only body style of this generation. Your VIN is only used to confirm the version before manufacturing.
Does a large equipped V8 SUV stay pleasant for the family?
Yes, with the valves closed it keeps the silence of a grand tourer, and the V8 only makes itself heard when you ask, at start-up or on a clear road.
BMW X5 50i E70 N63 4.4T: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW X5 50i E70 N63 4.4T: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
