The BMW X6 M E71 exhaust in detail.
The first coupé SUV from BMW M, the X6 M E71 takes the X5 M E70’s architecture under a sloping roofline: a 4.4-litre V8 with both turbos housed in the V, 555 hp and 680 Nm, moving this bulk with disconcerting ease. Produced from 2010 to 2014, it shares its system with the X5 M according to the guide, each keeping its own page; the X6 M F86 that succeeds it has its own.
Our data puts its factory exhaust at 44.7 kg, a considerable weight for an assembly that also smothers the V8: you feel the thrust, but only hear a distant breath. Yet a V8 has a deep, meaty voice, made of tight pulses that quicken with the revs. With the valves open, our cat-back makes the engine rumble darkly at low revs then sends a dense wave rising with every acceleration; closed, they give the X6 M back its role as a touring car.
This coupé SUV receives a system bent to its VIN, which the garage connects in about two hours with no welding; the factory valve control is retained where it exists, and replaced by the Rog remote otherwise.
The “Manifold” option sells the V8’s front section; on its own, it affects the voice and the mass, with power coming from an ECU remap. On this 2010 coupé SUV, the 200-cell front section lets exhaust gas treatment do its job, the 100-cell one is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the variant without a catalytic converter, the decat version, is reserved for track use. Against the stock 44.7 kg, our titanium version, around 40% lighter than the same system in 304 stainless steel, noticeably lightens the rear.

Questions about the BMW X6 M E71 4.4TT exhaust.
Can my X6 M E71 use the system designed for the X5 M E70?
Our guide groups them together, the X6 M being simply an X5 M under a coupé body; we keep two pages and check your SUV’s VIN before any manufacturing.
Does an X6 M E71’s twin-turbo V8 have headroom?
The page lists 662 hp and 840 Nm in Stage 2, with the front section and a map from an approved tuning centre; on this first-generation V8, cooling and maintenance matter as much as the software.
Before vehicle inspection, how should a modified X6 M E71 be prepared?
Drive to the centre with the valves shut, so the first X6 M regains its factory murmur, and keep a catalysed front section, factory or 200-cell; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the vehicle and your country’s rules, and the decat version is reserved for track use.
Forty-four kilos of factory exhaust: what does an X6 M E71 gain with titanium?
Our data puts the standard system at 44.7 kg; our titanium version weighs around 40% less than the same system in stainless steel, though we do not quote an exact weight before measuring it.
Does a 2015 X6 M fall under this page?
No, 2015 saw the arrival of the X6 M F86 with a revised S63 engine, shown on its own page; your VIN removes any doubt.
BMW X6 M E71 4.4TT: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW X6 M E71 4.4TT: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
