The BMW XM G09 exhaust in detail.
The first model designed entirely by BMW M since the M1, the XM G09 combines the S68, a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with its turbos inside the V, with an electric motor and a plug-in battery. In combined figures, it is rated at 653 hp and 800 Nm, and 748 hp with 1,000 Nm in Label form. We document it for cars built since 2023; the hybrid M5 G90, with a related engine, has its own page.
On a hybrid, the V8 does not run all the time, which makes every combustion start-up striking; the heavily filtered factory exhaust, however, makes it an almost imperceptible event, and the S68’s deep rumble hardly ever comes through. With the valves open, our cat-back makes every awakening of the V8 noticeable and accompanies acceleration with a broad rumble; with the valves closed, the XM keeps the refinement of its electric driving.
Neither the engine, nor the ECU, nor the hybrid system is modified: the system, bent to your VIN, fits without welding using clamps and gaskets in about two hours, with the original valve control or the Rog remote.
The “Manifold” option sells the front section that follows the S68’s turbos; on its own, it affects the voice and the weight, and turning it into power calls for an ECU remap reserved for tuners who master hybrid electronics. For this plug-in hybrid SUV, the 200-cell catalysed version keeps exhaust gas treatment; the 100-cell is accepted or not depending on the car and the rules in your country, and the decat version is reserved for track use. On such a heavy SUV, titanium, around 40% lighter than 304 stainless steel, earns its place.

Questions about the BMW XM S68 G09 V8 4.4T PHEV exhaust.
Does the 748 hp XM Label take the same system as the 653 hp XM?
Yes: at 653 or 748 hp, the base XM and the Label share the system on the page, for cars built since 2023; we identify your version from the VIN before building.
Does an XM’s hybrid S68 lend itself to an ECU remap?
The page lists 900 hp and 1,150 Nm in Stage 2 for both versions; on a hybrid platform of this calibre, the work belongs with a tuner who masters its electronics, and the cat-back on its own does not touch it.
BMW XM S68 G09 V8 4.4T PHEV with a Rog exhaust: what should you know about vehicle inspection?
With the cat-back only or the 200-cell sports catalytic converter, emissions control is retained: present the car with the valves closed. The 100-cell brings more sound and flow, and whether it is accepted at the emissions test depends on the car and local rules; the decat version is intended for track use.
Is the six-cylinder XM 50e covered?
No, this system does not extend to the XM 50e; it targets the XM with the S68 V8.
Does the XM stay silent when driving on electric power?
Yes, since the V8 is then switched off; our system only speaks up when it wakes, valves open or not as you choose.
BMW XM S68 G09 V8 4.4T PHEV: Does a valved exhaust system drone?
No. With the valves closed, the gases flow through the whole rear silencer and the cabin stays calm at a steady speed. Our Rog exhausts are designed to avoid drone. Learn more: Why our systems stay calm on the motorway.
BMW XM S68 G09 V8 4.4T PHEV: straight pipe or resonator?
On this model, two characters at the same price: the straight pipe for the raw sound of your engine, unfiltered, or the resonator for a rounder and slightly softer voice. Either way, the exhaust stays fully sporty. Learn more: Exhaust resonator: what does it do? Straight pipe or resonator, which sound to choose.
